why isnt deron wiliams on team usa?

Did you actually read the article attached to the link?
No members of the 2008 gold-winning Olympic team will be participating this summer, so USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo and head coach Mike Krzyzewski will be building an entirely new team over the next six weeks. And they won't have the ability to rely on the talents of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and company.

Now, I might be wrong... but I'm guessing that this is nothing personal against D-Will (maybe a policy of spreading the Team USA glory around?)... in fact, this will probably solidify his ability to play in the 2012 Olympic games... AKA, the ones that really matter.

Williams to skip world championships

Deron Williams has officially declined an invitation to play for USA Basketball at this summer’s world championships in Turkey, according to a Yahoo.com report. Williams had said Saturday at his charity golf event that he was unlikely to play.

According to the report, the U.S. team will not feature a single holdover from the 2008 Olympic team. Williams was the last player from the Olympic team to officially pull out, notifying managing director Jerry Colangelo on Saturday night.

Colangelo told Yahoo that Williams cited a family matter and that none of the players who declined would be removed from consideration to be part of the 2012 Olympic team.

My understanding is that all of those players were invited to play, just for one reason or another they all declined. Most of them due to free agency or injuries.

Nice. Everyone turned their back on the world championships? Wonder how deep into NBA talent they will have to go to find 12 willing players.

I'm sure I read somewhere that they talked to Big Al, but he turned them down because he's trying to get acclimated to the Altitude in Utah this summer.

I thought Al said he was open to joining team USA in his press conference, but that it was too late... or maybe that was the Olympics he was talking about. But if you're right, then I'm glad Al is making the decision that he did.

I just found the article about Jefferson dropping out of Team USA

Jefferson Latest to Drop Out for Team USA
https://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/15/jefferson-latest-player-to-drop-out-for-team-usa/

So according to article it was mostly just rehabbing his ACL, why he's not going, but still not a bad reason.
It really looks like Al wants to play for Team USA though. Maybe with DWILL helping him become an All Star they will beg him to go in 2012.

Snippets:

"The reason why I decided not to go, me and my team decided that I just felt real comfortable with what I was doing now as far as rehabbing working out, rehabbing on my knee,'' said Jefferson still working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in February 2009. "And I felt real good about it. And I just felt like I need to continue to do that. I feel I'm young enough (25) to have a chance to go four years from now (for the 2014 World Championships)... My team supported me on that and USA also did too.''

"I wish him well this summer,'' Colangelo said of Jefferson dropping out to concentrate on his workouts. "He's got a job to do. He was just invovled in a trade. We'll move on.''

I believe DWill declined the invitation.

He did so he can actually have some rest and recover time over the summer. Good on him if you asked me becuase we need him at full strength when we meet the Miami Heat in the Finals next season.

Oh that's right, I went there.

im glad he declined..
1) so he can heal his ailing wrist
2) develop chemistry w/ Big Al, et al...
3) save his legs for the '10-11 NBA Finals run !!

He like most other top players in the NBA declined. This includes players for other countries like P. Gasol, Nowitski, and AK. So we should still be the favorites, but watch out for Spain. They could certainly beat us. Good thing P Gasol is not playing for them. Granted M Gasol is about as good as any of our big players are.

Deron went to training with Stockton a few years back and he turned into a beast the ensuing year.
I wonder if Big Al can do the same with Malone.
