Why No Burks?

For me it comes down to smarts. Burks just does not have the BBall IQ of even a player like O'Neal. Definitely not even in the same galaxy as our starting 5, who are BBall geniuses every one of them. Burks can make athletic plays, but doesn't have the IQ to be able to read what is happening on the floor and react in the best way possible. He has 2 ways of reacting in most cases: drive into traffic with no idea what to do with the ball other than throw it at the rim then fall down (or hopefully get lucky and actually get to the rim and lay it up or dunk it, which is what most people point to when they say he athletic and talented), and throw up a 3, which he can hit with some regularity. He would do well to try to develop into a 3 and D guy, but good D requires basketball smarts and he just doesn't really have that. More often than not he causes the system to break down instead of working within it.
 
Wish Utah would’ve gone and worked out a trade with Denver and Brooklyn that would’ve netted the Jazz DeMarre Carroll. Then add Marco Belinelli after his buyout.

Gobert, Favors, Crowder, Carroll, Jingles, Jerebko/O’Neale, Mitchell, Belinelli, Rubio and Exum. That’s a helluva playoff rotation if they could’ve pulled it off.

The variability of Burks game is off the chart. The ball goes into his hands and it sometimes feels that he is in his own world.
