Why our target MIGHT be DeMarre and not Millsap

3y 10-12 Million for DMC max. And thats overpaying, but Jazz are able to do it and still be flexible for 2018 when they need it. Don't want the Jazz to sign anyone longer than 3 years.

If the Jazz had kept both players at the contracts they got from Atlanta, and the Jazz had the opportunity to retain them after the success they've had over the last 2 seasons. . . who would you keep (factoring in the current roster) and at what price. If Carroll had stayed, he'd have become a starter next to Hayward under Snyder. Of this, I have no doubt. Considering how he finished off the season, I'd be willing to bet that Jazz fans would likely prefer to keep Carroll and let Millsap walk. And that we'd be willing to pt him starter money to do so. While we do have 4 solid wings (love me some Jingles too), IF the Jazz can get Carroll for a market value deal - not an overpay - market value. I'd absolutely be all for it. He helps the team immediately and improves the already solid defense. Hood and Burks highlight the bench, and hopefully compete with each other to be 6th man of the year.

Forgive my "throw the max at him" insanity. $12M is probably tops, but I'd offer 4 years. But here's the other consideration...in two more years Hayward is going to have the option to opt out and seek a 30% contract. Do we really want to pay Hayward $25M-$30M to stay? We WILL be paying Gobert that kind of money (or someone else will!). At that point, having DMC at $12M-$13M would be an extreme bargain. Hood could start at SG and Burks may/may not be on the team given his salary.

Given our salary space for the next couple of seasons, Jazz should pursue Carroll or Millsap (but only if Paul would be willing to come off the bench). Who else are we going to spend money on? Durant?

The Jazz don't have a player whose primary role is to defend the opposing team's best perimeter player. Meanwhile, Trey chucking Burke gets to play basketball.

There is plenty for the Jazz to want out of Carroll. ****ing plenty. Just because you have some weird axe to grind doesn't change that.
I love Carroll the player. I was pissed when he left. He is going to get PAID this off season. I think his impact on the team would be minimal compared to his eventual salary. That is the reason I don't think he fits for this team.
.
I agree about Burks I think he should be gone. And a replacement is not really a requirement but would be nice. I see Cotton and Burks fully capable of replacing Burke.
.
So we are not far off on Carroll.....I just can't see him being worth the money he's going to get with regards to our current roster.

Ummm, every last one of those guys fit our system. Not saying we should sign them, but other then Deron I'd love to have all of those guys. We shouldn't sign them because we are deep on the wing and Millsap wants to start.

I said NEEDS not system. And Deron absolutely does not fit our system. I agree we shouldn't sign them they don't make sense. I could see Carroll making a little bit of sense but not at the price I believe he'll get.

Iggy getting the finals MVP shows the value of a defensive specialist on the wing, preferably one with some offense. DMC's stock has probably gone up, but would fill a need better than Sap. Any of our scoring wings have the potential to be great on D? Hood?

this is a really interesting scenario... I see Atlanta dumping salary to try to keep both of these guys, but props to who brought this up... headed over to rep.

Carroll never should have been let go. I'm curious to see how close to his $50 million asking price he actually ends up getting this offseason. I'd love for the Jazz to bring him back. Give him a 4 year, $48 million offer. That's EXACTLY the same deal that Iguadola got from the Warriors - for just such a moment.

Lineup of Gobert, Favors, Carroll, Hayward and Exum is probably the best 5 defensive starting lineup in the league. And using Burks, Hood and Jingles generously will help all to reduce wear and tear throughout the year.

Max might be a little much. But others spoke of throwing a max offer at Middleton. I don't think DMC is worth any less. He's an elite defender and averaged 15/6 on 49%/40%. He averaged 20 pts in the playoffs before injuring his toe in the Cavs series.

Utah should at least put pressure on the Hawks. If Atlanta doesn't sign DMC before Millsap, they'll lose him.

I find the "leak" that came from Checketts VERY suspicious. The Jazz organization is historically very tight-lipped. DL hasn't shown anything to the contrary. Unless Spencer is trying to end media relations with the Jazz, the Millsap leak was either a trial balloon or disinformation.

I don't know. A lot of people have a hard time coming back from a toe injury.

He had turf toe - sprained ligaments around the big toe. Rest, ice and physical therapy. Maybe orthopedic shoes. It's not usually a reoccurring injury.

I think he'll be fine. I hope Utah goes after him. I think he'd be worth bringing back.

Were you absent the day they taught sarcasm?

I'd be happy with Carol at the right price. And max ain't it.
