Why shouldn't

... the Jazz try to resign Marvin to a long-term contract and trade Kanter+ their 2014 pick for a higher 2014 pick?

Marvin is versatile : if the Jazz draft a SF he can play a stretch 4, if the Jazz draft a big he can easily slide in the role of the third big/bigger SF. Marvin will probably end up being cheaper than resigning Kanter, while fitting much better with Favors and Hayward. In addition, he is still young, plays defense and generally seems to be a steady, high-character guy.

Kanter simply does not have an ideal body to play a defined position ( C? PF?) and probably always will be somewhat fragile mentally... and we already have Hayward with his perennial ups and downs.

Thoughts?

Don't think anyone will give up one of the top three picks for just about anything.
Hey, I would settle for, say, the 6th +Kanter for the 4th (and get Randle), or 7/8 +Kanter for the 5th (and get Exum, Smart etc.). I am just afraid that if we hang on onto Kanter we will end up with an expensive, but deeply flawed big like our beloved Memo.

If Randle drops off a little it could happen. He is at 18/10 right now on crazy efficiency. I don't think currently a team trades down for Exum or Smart even if they need a PG.

When Kanter started he was the most consistent scorer on this team. He played bad defense, he was not fighting like he did before, not rebounding and played without his strenght.
Thats a very weak comparisson with Hayward who is scoring with 39 percent from the field, Kanter as starter was scoring always well, without chuking like Hayward is doing, he just begun struggling scoring when he was supposed to come off the bench.

The last few games Kanter is stronger physically, rebounding close to his true level, fighting harder with opponent and playing better defense. He is struggling with his shot right now, because he is trying to produce to much in limited minutes. he is not letting the offense come to him, like he did when he started.

Kanter is more than twice the talent Memo Okur was. But, what I learned about Jazz Fans is, that most of the user here does not have any clear-cut course, they are building their complete opinion about the momentum. So I will just lean back and watching things changing. I can remeber when Kanter was the best player on the team in many opinions, at the start of the season and now he is the odd-man out. hahah

Kanter was 14/8 with 21 years of age, without being at his dominant shape, coming from injury. Where was Okur at that age ? Kanter is more than twice the talent Okur was.
