What's new

Will the Jazz learn from their mistakes and give the young guys the minutes they need?

It's about time that we play Favors and Burks 30 minutes, somehow, someway. Last year they opted to play the vets in order to make the playoffs. So what good did it do us? We make the playoffs, get swept in four, and lose a nice draft pick in strong draft, plus the young guys are behind schedule!

I'm talking mainly about Burks and Favors who need the minutes to develop, and the way Kanter is progressing, the Jazz need to move Big Al or Sap. It may not help us this year, but we need to look to the future. We're not going to go to the finals this year, but if we ever do want to go to the finals, we need to bite the bullet and play the young guys who are our future.

Have they learned? No evidence of it so far. I still see Big Al starting and getting all the touches. Yes, favors has started the last 2 but would he if Sap was available? Who knows, not likely.

Harpring is sure on board with giving Favors 30 plus per game and I agree. Hate to see the O go to big Al while Marv and Gordon stand around and watch. And how does Big Al fit out need mode of going more uptempo? Is there anyone in the league more downtempo?

I feel like Utah's going to take advantage of our depth as long as possible.

I don't think we lose any of our veteran players until the trade deadline, at the earliest.

Good post. Thats what it is really coming down to, is depth. Which is good but, I worry too much that it effects the young guys too much. Either they might grow sour about playing here or it might stunt their growth.

I do like that it helps save the bodies of our young guys for future years though

The young bigs we have needed extra time to develop. They could both probably start at this point but Millsap and Jefferson are still better players. They need minutes but at this point I'm ok with having them come off the bench. We love the promise that young players provide here but it can divert our attention from the quality vets we have.

^^^^stop making sense grandpa and get with the youth movement already!

Is it really going to hurt their development playing 20 minutes per game, and watching Al and Millsap the rest of the time?

It could. Even Harpring said during the OKC game that you're not going to progress enough when you only get 20 minutes per game. Not to mention the fact that Kanter didn't even get close to 20 minutes last year.

What mistake? You mean the one that caused the Jazz to make the playoffs last year?

In a word, no. As has been said, the vets start until either they are traded, free agents, or the young players out play them. Don't like it? Go watch one of the perennial lottery teams that play their lottery picks and suck.

I think this is largely what the OP is talking about. Burks DID outplay CJ and Bell last year, yet was still sitting on the bench behind them most of the year.

I would but their games aren't offered on TV locally, and I'm not willing to cough up the money for league pass. Can't watch streams online either because I'm not ready for the criminal lifestyle of murder, rape, and general thuggery that an activity like that requires.

The Jazz it is, I guess.
