Will the Jazz make a trade to upgrade PG?

If the Jazz want a PG, they can wait until the trade deadline. Dragic, Knight, Carter-Williams, Thomas and Jackson were all traded last year. PG is a loaded position right now, and there's no reason to make another major investment until after taking a long, hard look at Exum, Burke and even Burks over the first half of the season before doing anything.

I agree. There are enough good ball handlers on the roster right now outside of the PG role-- Hayward, Burks, Hood-- that we can more than get by, if it comes to that. Another rookie PG is not going to solve the problem. That said, most of the responses in this thread seem to be missing the point of the thread title-- the question isn't whether the Jazz will trade up to draft a high-potential PG, but whether or not a trade will happen that will upgrade our PG rotation... i.e., in the form of a proven veteran to replace Burke in the second unit and mentor Dante.

I'd love to see them grab Russell

I wouldn't. He's going to be a good PG, no doubt. But when it comes to distribution I'd rather have Wright. What with his defensive tenacity, passing abilities and his seniority. He's a guy you can place behind Exum right away and see production.

What if the draft goes?

Towns
Okafor
Porzingis
Winslow
Russell

Do we make Orlando an offer? Do we have enough picks?

Edit: Wouldn't they have to srsly consider Burke, 12th, Future Pick(maybe 2)
I would give up much more. Even include (gulp) Burks in the package.

Russell is my #1 guy for the jazz as well as my homer pick

Looking seriously like the Jazz will be picking one of these three,(Kaminsky,Turner,WCS),the one that slips to them......on most boards these three seem to be bunched together
I'm good with all three of them

One thing is for sure this draft/offseason is going to be more interesting than I thought it would be.

1)Towns
2)Biggest Market team not afraid to sell
3)Hinkie
4)2nd biggest market super impatient
5)Orlando seems lost
6)Kings are lost
7)Denver starting over
8)probably a 3
9)HAHAHornets

Cousins, Lawson, Bledsoe, etc

Jazz with a vault full of assets
Ainge borderline desperate
Cap panic in Golden state
LBJ blackmail in Cleveland

I'm so excited

I don't buy it. There were deals to be had at thee trade deadline and nothing happened.

Because those deals would have likely increased our immediate wins, and Utah wasn't at that phase of the rebuild last year. I tend to agree that Utah won't likely draft another PG, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of trading for a vet PG.

Guess my Mavericks, Celtics Jazz darft day trade doesn't seem so silly now, now does it?

Celtics receive: 12
Mavericks receive: 28, Burke
Jazz receive: 16 & 21

Jazz take either Oubre, Dekker, or Portis @ 16... Delon Wright @ 21.

Delon Wright is a distributing defensive PG. Exactly what they want.

So we use Burke as a sweetener to move down?

Hell yeah. He's only worth a late teens early 20's pick.

I'm still stuck on this.

You are saying Burke = 21 pick, and our 12 = 16.
Even if Burke was equal the 21, in what world does our 12 = 16 straight across?
Do we get cash, a ham sammich, or the rights to some player that will never play in the NBA or something too?

16 piles of 3 quarters is equal to 12 dollars

See we have to give the 12 pick to get them to take trey.

Then we get the 16 and 21 for absolutely nothing.

It's a steal for the jazz

I made him give me two twinkies; I give one twinkie to my bodyguard and I eat the other one, so it doesn't cost you anything!

Correct! The Mavs ain't gonna just take Trey when they can get a better point guard at 21 (and they WILL take a PG at 21), it will require another pick for them to do it. The Jazz get exactly what they PROBABLY already want at 16, PLUS they get the 21st pick. They drop Trey easily for a better PG and get what they want anyway! It's a win win!

If you really dislike Trey that much, there are better ways to move him without giving up assets, like, say, waiving him.

What could have been expected? Corbin is the one who pushed for him...

This is a tired narrative. DL once says Trey was Corbin's guy and now it's written on brass plates that it was Corbin's pick. We have no idea whose influence won out but comments to the media are meant to contain enough elements of truth to be considered true but enough holes in a story to mean virtually anything.

Trade Burke. Even without any additional moves the team has upgraded the PG position. Burks/Cotton = better than Burke. Also, I'm not sure I want the Jazz paying Trey $6+ million over the next two years. Open up some cap space and make a move that really helps when it counts - the playoffs. Trey Burke getting serious minutes and taking a boatload of shots is not a winning formula for the playoffs.

Jazz will go BPA available but I don't think they are looking to hinder the growth of Exum or Burke. I could see Utah signing or trading for a veteran point, but not drafting Payne, Mudiay or Russell unless they are the BPA at #12.
