Will The Pelicans Make The Playoffs?

Was just hanging out with some casual NBA fans, who happen to fans of the Pelicans, and they were adamant that the Pelicans would make the playoffs. I assured them that it was probably (like 95% sure) not going to happen.

Does anyone here think the Pelicans will make the playoffs?

Is Jrue Holiday a top 10 PG in the league?

Is Eric Gordon's contract tradeable given their poor use of assets (trading away too many 1st round picks)?

Is Asik enough to make them challenge for an 8th spot or better?

With the brow, anything is possible

If they stay healthy, yes, That roster has gotta be the most injury prone in the league though.

Anthony Davis is going to BEAST this year, Asik should be a great compliment. Tyreke Evans had a pretty good 1st season(Hayward #'s at 2/3rd's the price). Ryan Anderson is a difference maker.

Jrue Holiday (when healthy) is on the fringe of a top 10 PG, I'd trade Trey and a pick for him, and I rarely advocate trading future picks.

They will have to beat out teams like PHX, DAL, DEN and MEM, Injuries could change the landscape of the west, as it sits right now they are a legit darkhorse to make the playoffs, not sure id bet on it though.

Heres the odds to win the west as of July 14th (Sportsbook.ag)

San Antonio Spurs 13/5
Oklahoma City Thunder 3/1
Los Angeles Clippers 5/1
Houston Rockets 8/1
Golden State Warriors 12/1
Portland Blazers 22/1
Memphis Grizzlies 30/1
Dallas Mavericks 30/1
Denver Nuggets 40/1
Phoenix Suns 40/1
New Orleans Pelicans 45/1
Los Angeles Lakers 50/1
Minnesota Timberwolves 75/1
Utah Jazz 125/1
Sacramento Kings 125/1

If Anderson and Brow stay healthy, they'll make it imo.

I've always felt like they're constructed as a fantasy team rather than an actual basketball team. Not a lot of chemistry and very injury prone.

I do like the addition of Asik. It allows Davis to play at his natural position.

They've got a shot (cause of Davis mainly), but this is the West we're talking about.

This was my argument.

A bunch of overrated players individually and Anthony Davis. Possible Davis makes the leap into being a top 5 player and carries the team, but even then, he is super injury prone and their guards suck.

Their 5 man lineup of Holiday, Evans, Gordon, Anderson and Davis had the highest ORtg in the league afaik.

it is more like a fantasy team than an actual team. reminds me of lakers when they had howard. only worse tho

AD is indeed insane.

Eric Gordon probably going to be out a while (again). Their guard depth was awful with Gordon, now it's completely terrible.

Think they are going to try playing Anderson at SF w/ Asik & Davis even more now. Not sure that is going to work against the good teams in the NBA.

Fixed

Eric Gordon will retire once his contract is up. His body won't be able to hustle full seasons. And he won't play through pain with 60 on the bank on a valuable min contract heat check guy. His ego won't allow that in his late 20s.

Luke Babbit started for the Pelicans...... Jesus Christ.

Pelicans are so desperate for a 2nd starting wing it's insane.
