With Dallas's loss at Memphis...

we and Oklahoma City (who we're tied with) have officially passed them in the Western Conference Standings. We are now tied for 3rd place, but the Thunder have the tie breaker with us right now because they have a better overall record in divisional play (tie-breaker #3 on NBA.com's Western Conference Standings).

Is this a question?

Ok, probably not.

For those of you waiting on an AK trade, forget about it.

AK is the key to Utah beating OKC in the first round, assuming that's where we start.

Ok sir. With your permission I would like to trade the second biggest turd okur. One of them gots to go.

There's quite a bit of money tied up in Okur and AK, but somehow I'm not picturing Okur getting traded. I think the coaches like him.

If there is a trade it will be a salary dump. We don't want that.

I am extremly glad Dallas is struggling and the jazz have a shot at the 3rd seed. A top 3 seed would be huge.

Huge I say!

I'm pretty confident the Jazz can secure themselves the #3 seed this season. They have a different confidence about them that hasn't been there for a few years and that will help them immensely down the stretch and in the post-season.

Three seed is GARBAGE if the Lakers get the two seed. I'd gladly take the five seed if it meant avoiding LA in the second round and playing the Spurs instead. I'm rooting for the Spurs to get the one seed. We have no shot at catching them. We are always the four or five seed, this won't change. The only way the three seed makes sense is if the Lakers shoot up to number one, which is going to be difficult.

Wait, I'm confused. Didn't you mean Utah is the best by far and will easilly roll over chumps like Spurs, Mavs , Lakers?

Where is the delusional overconfidence?

I ballpark estimate the chances of winning a division based on a seed:
1 = 55%
2 = 26 %
3 = 11 %
4 = 3 %
5 = 2 %
6 = 1%
7 = 1%
8 = 1%

More importantly, the chances of just advancing to the second round based on a seed:
1 99%
2 96%
3 85%
4 60%
5 40%
6 15%
7 4%
8 1%

If Utah can make a statement and roll over LA and San Antonio next week - then all of a sudden I won't be all that concerned about seedings.

Jazz need to win the division first and have home court advantage in the first round - there's really no excuse for not getting that done.

So you're saying seeding's an indicator of our chances of winning the division?

Yes, chances of winning the playoffs. There is some variation of chances based on two x factors ; injuries, and whether the team in question is the returning champion, but in general, the higher the seed, the better chances of advancing in the playoffs, IMO.

Wait, can you explain this to me again? Only in a way that makes sense and isn't completely moranic.

So what?

Dirk isn't going to stay injured forever and the season isn't even halfway over and we've been playing a bunch of bums lately. A lot can happen between now and the end of the season. However, I think one thing that's apparent is that we need to add another shooter to this team. A perimeter player that can score consistently score from the outside will keep defenses from the Spurs, Lakers, Heat, Mavs, and Celtics honest.

If we really want to celebrate something lets celebrate a win against the Spurs, Lakers, or Heat right now. I think they're giving (fans) confidence that we'll do the exact same against good teams. Lets return to reality. Good teams will clog the lane and prevent Deron, Millsap, and Al from scoring. We've seen this from the good teams this year.

Who will step up? Raja? AK? CJ (he's been doing it as of late)?

Personally, I think we need to add one more piece to the puzzle.

Upon reflection, 6th seeds do get a significant number of upsets.
I'd adjust the odds as follows:
98
90
70
60

40
30
10
2
