What's new

With the 47th Pick, Kevin Murphy

The 6'4" power forward
6'6'' by NBA standards fwiw (and a legit NBA 6'5'' without the platform shoes). Dude killed the pre-draft agility test and hit 35% of his 3s, attempting 5 per game this past season. He's a 3. Matt Harpring 2.0. Would be a good fit, especially if the Jazz can find a point guard somewhere.

Is anyone else a little worried about Thunder taking PJIII? If that guy is a hit...

I just don't see how he fits in. The Thunder don't need scoring. He will have a lot of time to develop and I don't expect him to get much PT his first year. I guess if he pans out, he can be a PF who can score off the bench, but I just don't see him panning out.

Guess it's just me then. He was so hyped last year when I actually paid attention to the NBA draft. Seems like a guy that would play C when they go small, which they do like to do. That team loves pure athleticism and they have a great coach. At the very least they have the breathing room to take a chance on a high ceiling.

Their defense would be ****, but it would make for an offensive/athletic powerhouse.

Well that gives me a little more hope if he falls to us.

Well, I don't really watch college ball, but...

Dude was Big East player of the year. While he lacks explosive athleticism, reports are that he does a good job playing within himself, playing off others, running the floor and competing. He seems like he could be a useful NBA player.

PJ III for the Thunder was

A. Probably the BPA at that time.
B. Insurance in case Harden leaves. They may not need PJ's scoring right now.... But they certainly will if Harden leaves.

To me it makes perfect sense. If they want to resign Harden, which means Ibaka could be on his way out, and PJ3 can take over in a year or two.

I guess the question is can they afford to resign Harden if they let Ibaka walk

Did you know three people have more career assists at Gonzaga than John Stockton? Obviously 15,000 will be broken any day now.

Look, it's obvious that Mr. Mantooth has watched somewhere between 0 and 20 total minutes of game film on either of these two players and is now an expert. He might be right, he might be wrong, but he's really just flipping a coin very very adamantly.

Loved this line.

If PJ3 replaces Ibaka the Thunder lose a whole lot of defensive presence and only get marginally better on offense (maybe worse because there is only 1 basketball).

I remember when Wes Mantooth's favorite player as the PF out of North Texas because he saw he shot 40% from deep on 1 attempt per game. He was right away assured he could be our SF of the future. There was also no game film of him anywhere besides a really poorly shot 30 second highlight reel.

Perhaps Alec Burks II with a better outside shot...

I don't see it,

Alec mainly drove for contact and finished near the rim, and had shown flashes of brilliant playmaking ability

From all the reports and scouting ive read on murphy,
he shoots over 70% of his shots as a midrange-or-farther jumpshot [almost 6 3's per game @ > 40% = :)], and is not an exceptional passer (more t/o's than assists)

We picked up a guy who can catch and shoot, and shoot off isolations.

I dont expect a burks clone (ie cutting, drawing contact, making plays) but a role player put in to keep the defense honest and capitalize when they aren't.

How does this compare to 'Sabonis' Jonas?
