With the Fifth Pick... Dante Exum

Why complicate things? If you need a centre, you draft a freaking centre. You don't draft a small forward, then trade your current small forward for dimes on the dollar to get a centre. You draft a freaking centre. Good grief, it's not that complicated.

You really think this? What if the next available C is less of a player, and less likely to be an alstar or even just decent. If you need a c then sign one in free agency always take the best player.

I'm an Aaron Gordon fan, but yes there is something special in this video!

Was specifically addressing heyhey, but I'm happy you like Exum as well.

We now need to form a nickname committee for Exum. He himself ruled out Crocodile-D.

I had a feeling Cleveland was gonna hang on to the pick or absolutely fleece us in a trade for it. So, with that being said, this was a pretty solid draft and Exum looks like he will be the real deal.

I'm very curious if the Jazz plan on starting him next to Burke in the backcourt.

Also, sidenote: Revolution_9, I looked and you are like a 5 hour drive from me. Way too far old friend! (I'm formerly DWill4MVP if you remember before the site restart).

Plan for starting him? HA! He is such an unknown even to the Jazz. We have a new coach, new system, and a raw unknown rookie. There isn't a starting lineup planned out right now... Especially one that includes exum. After summer league , camp, and a few preseason games is the very soonest the coaches will have any clue what their plan is.

Exum and Hood were the best players available, that's why we drafted them. Not because they had some master starting lineup planned out.

Which is why I'm curious how it will play out. You don't draft a player without a plan for them, especially in the top 5 of a draft. And how are we to know he is so unknown to the Jazz? They do have international scouts and the kid was on some high profile teams regardless of if the local fans know much of him.

I'm excited to see what the kid can do, but I'm not doing back flips over this kid. The back flips were reserved for the first three picks. Like Dennis Lindsey said we need to wait and see on this kid. He may be great in 4 years and he might not. Right now I personally believe that Smart would eat the kids lunch in a game of one on one. But in 4 years, if he has the desire and work ethic, he may be very, very special. He might also be a bust.

True.

Eddie Jones was better than that Bryant guy for a year or two.

Can someone post his high school stats?
Did he dominate high school?

Do star players usually dominate in high school?

How do Exums high school stats compare to stars like lebron, kobe, durant, carmello?

What were an average player like alec burks and haywards stats in high school? How does high school exum compare to them?

If someone can pull this info it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I hope I am wrong, but this guy isn't better than alec burks.

maybe better option than Burke...but I hope to god he doesn't start over alec...

Ya, that would suck if he ended up being better than our 6th guy last year and started.

So Trey and Dante will be
"a backcourt of ice and fire"

We got dragons and direwolves. How can we be not instant contenders?

I wonder what the non-tankers are thinking now? Were those 3 or 4 extra wins worthwhile, now that we could not get into the top 3 and likely get a franchise player? What did those extra wins get us?

18 4 and 4 on 44% FGs and 33% 3pt. Those guys you mentioned dominated HS. 30+ ppg and double figure rebound type guys.

Sure, Exum might be a great player, but I'm not seeing much indication of why we should have high hopes. Not a great athlete, not a shooter, not a pure point, not a great rebounder for a guard, not a great scorer, doesn't have great size (unless he's a full time PG) - all this judging him against HS competition. Great players have elite skills and/or athleticism and they dominate HS.

The only thing that stands out about him is his size as a PG. I have to think the Jazz see all the big PGs in the league and feel inadequate with the smallish Burke.

IMO, if you're picking a raw young player and want to really swing for the fences, Zach Lavine is a better option because he is an elite athlete and a better shooter than Exum at this point.
