WOJ: Korver to Jazz for Burks and 2 second rounders

This is a great X's and O's move. Korver fits SO much better than Burks.

However, I understand why some are complaining. This deal barely moves the needle in terms of our relevance. Our starters and spacing are still issues as long as we go with Rubio and Favors. But I have faith that more moves are on the horizon. This was a smart move.

Yeah, it was a step in the right direction. Lots of teams are underperforming so the trade deadline will be pretty hectic. Favors will probably be gone by then

Rubio-Exum-Neto
Mitchell-Korver
Ingles-O’Neale
Favors-Tucker-Crowder
Gobert

Go get PJ! Add another superb situational shooter and toughness.

Here's another great thing to think about. Now we get to see Burks make boneheaded plays for the other team so we can get points off him

not a very smart trade. TBH, I don't hate it, I just don't think burks was the problem and I don't think 37-yr old korver was worth 2 second round picks+burks. If Korver was 32 i'd be stoked, but hes 37 yrs old.......

I really think this is our starting line up by January:
Mitchell, Korver, Ingles, Crowder and Gobert
Rubio runs the 2nd unit with Exum at SG, O'Neale at SF, Niang/Thabo at PF and Favors at C.

My take:

I’ve said for years that Korver was our best wing defender. People have pointed out Matthews and that’s true but we only had him for one year. I have no idea why Korver got a bad rep for D. The does tend to happen to guys who are white, good shooters, and not athletic. In any case, I remember an Atlanta assistant (maybe even Quin?) rave about his D. I haven’t followed him at all so I have no idea where his D is at these days. With regard to him passing up shots to preserve the record, I know he acknowledged it, but it’s not something I ever remember happening. I do remember being frustrated that we never really embraced him as Sloan didn’t believe in the three, and he never shot it all that well (compared to his career) for his duration here, sans his limited attempt record.

He could see time at the 4.

I was pissed when we darfted Hayward and then let Korver walk. Always felt he was underrated. Now that Hayward is gone we bring him back. Sad to see Burks go. Hope he tears it up and gets to the all star game on a coach’s selection while Hayward watches from home.

I love that people arguing against the deal are like... Korver soooo old!

He was a rotation player in the finals last year. He fills a huge need... he’s replacing a guy who was slumping hard and that never fit. Before you judge how bad a guy is check the receipts... dood is still doing things on offense at a very high level. He will get hunted on defense but is a good team defender. If they isolate Korver it means that Rudy isn’t guarding on the perimeter or being hunted... so he can help.

He has an advantageous contract. I get it... not a blockbuster but those don’t happen this early most of the time. We still have lots of salary fodder. Also, as long as he’s healthy we could flip the guy for expirings and seconds... of a team sustains a key injury and we don’t make the playoffs we might even get more.

If you don’t think we got better you are wrong... just a matter of how much better we got.

The four minutes is a little hot takey but I had a similar thought. I think we could push Royce there with Korver on the floor. I think Royce would be so much more effective as a 4.

We needed shooting and we got it. He’s still hitting them with high percentage, which should help more than our shooting. Defenses will have to stay on him. Always liked AB as a guy, but he wasn’t a great fit on the court. I wish him well in Cleveland. I bet Korver is excited to come back.

If the Rox fall apart, could Favors, Sef and a 1st for Tucker and Gordon ever happen? The Rox would free up over 20M next year. We’d add the missing pieces we need. Would we be too deep then?

Did you guys see the interview with Windhorst? Basically he said that Korver has more value around the league, but Cleveland traded him to Utah because he met his wife here and wanted his family to be here. He wants to be back and we’re going to be a great fit for him.

Just because a guy is white and doesn’t jump high doesn’t mean he’s a bad defender. 1 on 1 in space Korver will get scored on... so will most guys. He can help guide guys to help and will be in the right spot.

Again... today was a good day.
