Bill Oram: NBA players don't often struggle to get phone #s, but Gordon Hayward REFUSED to help former UCLA PG Earl Watson reach Butler's Brad Stevens

Any thoughts on why Watson wanted it or why Hayward refused?

Watson probably wanted to talk to Brad about being his assistant coach.... for the Utah jazz.

So UCLA calls Earl Watson, knowing he's a teammate of Hayward, to get a phone number for the head coach of Butler?
lol

I doubt Earl was doing it because the Prez of UCLA, or the AD had asked him to. But I could envision a scenario in which a booster called Earl in hopes that he get Brad's number from Hayward.

Or Earl thought that by making the call himself he could help deliver Brad to UCLA and make himself relevant again in UCLA land.

In other news, Earl would make a good coach at UCLA in 3 years when they fire the guy they just hired.

Watson went to UCLA and UCLA was recruiting Stevens to be the coach for UCLA. Hayward refused because he is loyal to Butler and didn't want to be the middle man or traitor to getting Stevens hooked up with UCLA.

in an interview on 1280 the zone last week, the hosts asked hayward if he could get them in talk with brad stevens for a march madness interview, which he promptly refused. I think he's not comfortable giving away contact info or forcing interactions with a guy he respects.

That explains everything. He is just not the one who shares someone's else private info without permission.
