Worst Move? Drafting Hayward over George or Burks over Leonard?

a 2 year career with a major knee injury

#8 is really why i like Shumpert in the last 2 seasons over burks, Shumpert makes plays like that with consistence

Let's face it...if you gave Tyrone Corbin a Ferrari, he'd use it to tow trailers. You give him a dump truck, he'd take it to the race tracks. Same applies to his use of players on the Jazz.

Paul George and Kawhi Leonard would be scrubs at this point in their careers if they played for Corbin, don't kid yourselves, you all know that...

burks has not gotten the chance to consitently get of the benc because corbin thinks he is not in the nba long enough

You like him because of his meaningless plays in garbage time?

yes. exactly.

or because turnovers that lead to fastbreaks, that lead to dunks...

also its probable next year this is how they will rank

1 Shumpert
2 Burks
3 Kahwi(seems to be losing confidence in his offense)

thats his highlights the 1st game back from knee surgery... hes a 2 way player, i think we should trade for him tbh, hes a monster(defends pg's - up to Tayshaun Prince sized players)...

im quite sure that if GVC was a die-hard nix fan Shumpert would be his favorite player on the squad, he makes game-changing plays

Burks has been unleashed.... still waiting to forgot about passing up Leonard.

I'm still waiting for him to be unleashed.

Quin has Burks sitting on the three point line and passing the ball around the perimeter.
As such, Burks is shooting much better from 3 than leonard (and shooting a career high) and averaging more assists.

I expect that if Quin wants Burks attacking more then Burks scoring and overall field goal percentage will increase.
We will have to see what happens as the season progresses I guess.

As for now, I would say Burks is more leashed than he was last year

Ahh yes, blame the coach.

I expect Burks to get better, a lot better, but to blame it on Quin is trucking comical. Burks struggles are 100% on Burks.

Burks role on this offense is to hang around the perimeter and pass more. (I think we all agree that quin preaches 3 pt shooting and passing)
So he is taking more threes (making a career high amount and career high percent) and passing more.
Getting to the rim less and attempting less free throws (though he is shooting a career high percentage)..... all while have a smaller role in ball handling (burke and Hayward are the main bask handlers) and attacking

If you think him playing the role of floor spreader (and taking less shot attempts) was going to result in more points then that is odd

That isn't his role. No one's role is that defined in Quin's system. He wants players to play aggressively and attack. Burks just isn't intelligent enough to know how to attack yet. It's a learning process and he is a slow learner. I can guarantee Quin isn't telling Burks just to sit on the perimeter, pass, and take bad midrange shots.

When Hayward is out of the game Burks is given just as many opportunists to create and attack, but he can't because he doesn't know how to yet.

Also Burks has the worst hesitation dribble in the NBA.
Great points

This.

Cy has been making good points.

I've been one of the Burks fans, but I'm not really seeing it anymore. Kinda losing hope on this one.

Crappy thing is, we just signed him to a big deal, and that's exactly why we should have been playing him a lot more. You can't just bury a guy on the bench and not develop him correctly or even at all, then just go and guess what his value is and make a bad deal. That always been one of my points with developing the youth. If you have a lottery pick and you are confident with your pick, and you aren't playing for anything anyways, then you should see what you got. Otherwise you could really screw things up.

Right now I'm kinda wishing we would have went after Chandler Parsons or some other free agent.

I still have faith that Burks will figure it out and play close to his contract. He just has to get rid of a few bad habits. Also think he really needs to work on his ball-handling and strength.

I love his spot up 3pt shooting. His balance is night and day though on some of his shot attempts, something he needs to work on. He just has to figure out where he can get his shots from in the offense. Hayward had trouble with that in Corbin's offense, now Burks is having trouble with it in Quin's.

Time to get the **** over Parsons already. FAs are nice to dream about, but not realistic for one of the least favorite destinations in the league, especially when we are closer to the bottom than the top. Our FO is looking pretty good on matching Hayward, so I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt with Burks, at least for now.

Parsons is shooting 41%/32%.
Lance Stephenson is at 37%/18%.

Hayward is at 47%/38%.

Can you imagine this board had Utah signed either instead of matching for Hayward?
