Would we accept #4 for Gordon Hayward?

How+About+No.jpg

This is funny to me only because a year ago it felt like over half this board thought the sky was falling when we matched Hayward's offer. Now we wouldn't give him up for a top 5 pick.

I wouldn't do the trade. Had we not had the major second half improvement I'd consider it. I think we've showed we are a bit closer and taking a step back would be discouraging to our other guys.

It really is funny the difference a year makes. Fans are so emotionally attached their minds/moods change with the wind. I wouldn't do the trade either mostly because of where the team is not necessarily because Hayward is so great.

Fans minds/moods change as players productivity changes.

Fixed.

The value I placed on Hayward in the 13-14 season was different than the value I place on Hayward now because he is a much better player now than a couple years ago.

Seems like the right thing for fans to do.

I honestly believe the thought behind the original post is among the most moronic I've ever seen on the Jazz board here. The only threads that trump this one in terms of sheer stupidity and idiocy are ones in support of Corbin's hiring, extension and any thread showing support during his miserable tenure.

Yeah, I disagree with this. Utah wouldn't make this deal without knowing who they were getting at #4, and it's possible, however unlikely that a player like Russell could drop to #4. Of course, due to the team's current position, it's still unlikely they'd make that trade, but it's not so ridiculous so as to say it would be out of the question. Utah is in a pretty good finacial situation right now, but that will be changing drastically within a few years. Gordon will be able to opt out in 2 years, and next time around he will be eligible for a true max contract, and giving him a contract like that will be far from automatic. Obviously the plan should be to be competitive enough by then that maybe Hayward gives the Jazz a break to stay with contender, but it's not something that should be taken for granted. The one situation we need to absolutely avoid is losing a player like Gordon for nothing. That **** just can't happen anymore.
.
Watch what happens in Portland with LMA this offseason. Utah isn't in the same situation right now with Hayward, but the FO needs to be proactive in making sure it stays that way.

Hayward's presence on our roster alone probably propelled us 15-20 wins last year. No one else, save Hood at the very very end of the season, had any comfort running offense in the half court with consistency. Far and beyond our best player, and a huge asset of our team hopefully for the next 5-7 years at least. Keep the dude here. Would not trade him for anyone in this draft.

It's hard to fathom we payed him all star grade without him performing at that level yet. However after this year I'm a hell of a lot more comfortable with him getting that money.

Yup.
A year ago Hayward was a different player than he is now

If the Knicks added more firstrounders(which they dont have) or added another promising talent(which they dont have as well) then I think I'd do it.

lol feel bad for the OP. Pile on! It was just an idea guys, calm down. That's what the forums are FOR.

Terrible idea though and the OP should be executed for having it.

Pure speculation obviously, but it really makes sense for the Knicks to build around Melo with current talent, not potential. Melo + Hayward + 1 big FA signing would make them instantly relevant and with good signings next seasons when the cap explodes, who knows what would happen.

How about Utah? Would we accept #4 for our star player? I really have no idea. On the one hand, it would be nice to just do away with the speculation about what Gordon is going to do in 2 seasons when he can terminate his deal. A new great rookie would also make it ok to give the reigns to Exum @ PG since we would not be aiming for he play offs next season.

May be a joke, but I'll reply anyway. Hayward is what you hope a #4 pick develops into. Absolutely not.

Clearly the shoe doesn't fit you. However from my experience that isn't the case with the vast majority of fans.

If that is true, then I'm in the minority with fish as well. There was viery little improvement in Hayward's game in years 3 and 4, and yet he made a dramatic improvement in year 5. Completely unexpected.
