Atlanta is clearing out cap space and may be looking to deal Al Horford. ATL could use Kanter as trade bait for Dwight and also give orlando a huge expiring contract with jefferson. This will allow Favors to be the fulltime center. I think both teams win on this trade.

Jazz Lineup

Favors/Zaza
Horford/Millsap
Williams/Carroll/Murphy
Hayward/Burks
Mo/Watson

Edit: ATL would also throw in their 2013 first rd pick unprotected

*So in the 2013 draft....this would give the Jazz the GS pick(top 7 protected)....ATL pick(Possibly top 5 pick) and Utahs own pick(top 20)

No.

Not only do I believe Kanter can become better than Horford, but you're also giving them Jefferson?

Plus, Favors and Horford would both prefer to play PF, whereas Kanter is a better fit at C, making him a better partner to pair with Favors when looking to the future.

It is interesting, but I would want to swap first round picks next draft. I have a feeling that Atlanta is going to be very disappointing.

I am still very, very high on Kanter. Two years removed from basketball, What 6 years of experience, and the guy is an ELITE rebounder, and improved a TON over the year. I want to see him for another year (and I mean actually see him, which means Al or Millsap (hopefully Al) gone) before I even consider trading Kanter....unless it is for a player I believe can lead me to a title....which Horford isn't.

No. I'm also high on Kanter and there is a chance we wouldn't have to pay him the $13mil per that Horford makes ever, but still get similar production.

I edited the trade based on your idea to make it more enticing. Instead of swapping picks, ATL would just give up their 1st rd pick unprotected.

Are you high?

Like... seriously??!!??

You're a Hawks fan aren't you????

More enticing, but Atlanta can't give up 1st-rounders if they're going after Howard. Orlando would likely want Kanter + a starter + two unprotected firsts. Of course that could change if Atlanta were willing to also take on Hedo, which they could do with Jefferson's expiring.

I still wouldn't do it. I know I'm placing a lot of faith in Enes - and I wasn't a big fan of the pick. But the ONLY thing that will separate the Jazz from the Thunder, Lakers, etc. is having TWO dominant bigs (+ Millsap). Lakers killed us every year with the Gasol, Bynum, Odom rotation. We simply couldn't compete with that size. Favors and Kanter have the ability to be an elite defensive tandem. Yes, it's a dream and If it doesn't happen, so be it. But I'm not willing (and I hope KOC isn't willing) to give up on that dream after just one season of having an extremely raw Kanter on the team.

Oops - didn't see that bit. I was just going by the ESPN trade machine.

With the unprotected draft pick, I guess it would depend on the talent level next year. To me Kanter is a keeper. We need to see what he can do after P3 + Summer League + Proper training camp to be able to evaluate him properly.

I'd still say "No" though. You don't trade your 3rd lottery pick unless until you've fully maximised his potential first.

Also a question of monetary value. Kanter on a rookie contract is pretty valuable. Take on $15M for Horford and you've spent most of the cap space that would have been available next summer AND given up Kanter. I think I read the Jazz would still have around $20M IF Al's contract comes off the book AND they re-sign Paul for $10M.
