Jazz trade Ak, Ronnie Price and if needed a first rounder for Danny Granger and TJ Ford. (aj price would probably be a throw in)

With the additions of Posey and Collison the Pacers are now overloaded at PG and SF. They would remove most of their salary for next year and they could go out and get 2 stars for their roster. They could offer the max to Horford (atlanta may not match that) They would play Ak at the 4 (his better spot) George is a good replacement. Ford is the one they may not part with but Collison is a better player. The Pacers have a lot of options and i am not sure that Ak is the best player they could get for him (of course i am a Jazz fan.

Pacers roster

Collison, Tinsley, Price
Rush, Stephenson, Jones
Posey, George, Dunleavey (he is a tough one to find a spot for)
Ak, Hansbrough, McRoberts
Foster, Hibbert, Jones

That is not a bod roster considering the peices they could add next summer

For the Jazz they would save about 1.5 mil in the trade. They get a very good scoring SF who they have liked for a while. When his mind is one it he is a very good defender. Ford i think is nothing more then a good back up and i think he would run the second team very well. He is pretty pricey but they money is the same with him as with out him. this would give this Jazz team a ton of depth.

Jazz Roster

Williams, Ford, AJ Price
Bell, Miles (wih Granger starting bells defense is needed on the first team Miles scoring the second)
Granger, Hayward. Evans
Millsap, Brendan Wright (see foot note)
Jefferson, Okur, Fesenko

*use a trade exception to bring in Wright

I like the trade but don't believe either team would actually do it.

Pacer's are unlikely to dump Granger for nothing.

The Jazz would be very hesitant to pretty much guarantee the luxury tax for another year or 2 maybe more. Talent wise it's not a bad deal but not sure that financially it works for the Jazz.

Good idea, I would love the Jazz line up. If they could pull something like this off with AK's contract I would be thrilled, but I just don't know if other teams will want to trade for him.

The question all teams would have to ask themselves could they resign AK and for how much. Indiana could concievabley (sp) offer 2 max contracts and put together a pretty formidable team. Guys like Horford and Marc Gasol could be had. Add them to young talents like Collison, Goerge, Stephenson, Rush hansbrough and Hibbert and they could compete for a long time. They coudl also get a few draft picks out of it and they would be deep young and talented

the Jazz would not be uner the LT next year Ford has one year left at 8.5

Umm your right they'll still be over which is why they probably don't do this.

Deron 16.4
Jefferson 14
Memo 11.9
Millsap 6.7
Miles 3.7
Hayward 2.5
Granger 12

That is 67 Million dollars for just 7 players. They would absolutely be in the tax this year and next year. And they would then lose Memo so they would maybe be able to get under. Maybe because you have to assume that it is not going to be cheap to replace Memo.

Lets see, Indiana trades their best player for a one year rental of AK and one of the worse backups in the league (Price). Ya....it must be summer.

First, for everyone complaining that this would lock up so much of our money into 7 guys, please ask yourself if it would matter who the other 6 guys on the roster were and how much they get paid. Even if you signed D-Leaguers for those 6 spots, the 5-year outlook on that team is far-and-away better than having more money to upgrade from D-League scraps to mediocre players. Cap flexibility is a means to an ends.

Second, there's no way on Earth Indiana considers this trade, even in passing, and I'm surprised that this hasn't been shot down hard so far.

Nope, I wouldn't do it. It puts the Jazz in worse financial shape and still leaves Gaines on the team.

Really? You wouldnt do this trade because we would have to keep our 3rd string PG who doesnt play on? Wow.

Hell yeah, Id do this trade in a heart beat. Problem, Indiana wont though. They want to build around the core of Collison,Hibbert, and Granger.

No, we can't do this trade in the same way that we can't go out for steak tonight because we won't be able to afford ramen tomorrow.

You just missed the point. Having those player's guarantee's that the team is in the tax zone and I'm not sure that this team is willing to be long term luxury tax payer's. The luxury tax is a real hindrance to a small market team like the Jazz. Also I disagree that having 3 really good player's and no bench is the way to win it all. The outlook would be pretty good in the short term but if they never get any height because of the salary restrictions having all of your money tied up in those 6 players and still not having enough height to be real competitors. So in the end the Jazz would be paying a lot more money long term for a team that is not really any better off than they would be just resigning Ak to a more reasonable contract next off season.

There is absolutely no way Indiana does this. If Indy just wanted to dump salary, they could get in touch with an under-the-cap team or with a big enough TPE to help them get their 24 ppg scorer off their hands. Just no way.

This is part of the AK delusion -- that the Jazz could get an All-Star-caliber (even East) player using his expiring. The Jazz could maybe get a role player or two to make them a bit better but a young All-Star-caliber player at around his prime? Time to get real.

You underestimate Andrei's value to this team. He might get a 5x5 this year. Besides, in games where Andrei makes big plays that help us win, we've never lost a single game.
