Would you trade Elder Hayward for....

I just don't see Hayward being as good as some do. I think he will get paid based on stats on a crap team. Meanwhile he'd still be the 3rd or 4th best player on a champ team making max money.

I like Aaron Gordon, but he's a gamble at this point. A small PF tweener.

Hayward is a known commodity. As good as this draft class is, it is not like every player is "generational. I see a huge talent drop after the 4th pick.

Hayward is a point-forward--do you have any idea how rare those are?

The fact that Gordon is playing this well on a crap team is a plus, not a detriment. He is racking up less assists because no one can hit shots. He's driving through double teams. He's being molded into something great.
 
YEs I would think about trading Hayward for the seventh pick if I thought the guy we're targeting is/.will be better than Hayward. Problem is we won't know who is available. However, the Jazz can go back to Hayward's agent and say what is your bottom line. If the Jazz don't want to meet his demands then trade his butt. I like Gordon a lot but he is not a MAX guy and I doubt he ever will be. The fact that the Jazz have two 1st round pick gives the Jazz leverage. However, I doubt any lottery teams will give up a high pick knowing that Hayward is a free agent next year.

My first criteria for a MAX guy is he your best player - Yes at this point. Will he be in the future? No

Is he capable of carry a winning team to a championship : NO
Is he multi-dimensional? Yes
Is he a top 20 guy in the league? NO
Does he average over 20-25 points per game?No
Has he proven to be clutch in the 4th? No
Has he made multiple all-star games? No
Is he well liked on the team? Yes
Is he a leader whether by action or voice? Maybe
Does he work on his game and try to improve it? Yes
Is he committed to the organization? Maybe
Does he like basketball? Maybe leaning towards Yes
Do you want him representing your organization? Yes
Is he a first option guy on winning team? No

I wouldn't max a guy who doesn't meet that criteria. Good for the Jazz for holding their ground.

Not unprotected, though. 1-10 this year. Only way to do it is trade for it 1-10 and if Charlotte finished better than that and thus ships it to Chicago, the Jazz would get 2016 pick, hopefully unprotected.

EDIT:

No, I'm wrong. Bobcats couldn't send out their pick to Chicago the year after, so they can't ship it off in that scenario.

I do believe, however, that so long as you have a first round pick from another team, you can trade consecutive picks of your own, so Jazz would have to send the GSW pick to get that pick under the scenario I posted above.

You don't trade that away for potential. You also have to believe his 3pt % will go up(dude was like 5th in the league last year post December)

Not saying Hayward is max player, but if he becomes one, you pay that. If you still hold the card for a player this good at everything, you don't trade it for a draft pick who may be this good. #7 pick is a world away from #'s 1-3 talent wise. You try to keep Hayward for his know how, and the fact that this is his season of discovery. He's taken a big leap every year in league, and he hasn't given any reason to believe he has plataued. You follow this throug, not skipping steps.
 
If the Jazz think he is going to get a max offer then I would trade him for a 2014 1st rounder, similar to what the Thunder did with Harden.
 
I need to see a little more of Hayward to make that decision. If his numbers hold up, probably more risk than reward in making that trade.
 
If he insists on a max deal still, then YES. I would rather have a Top 7 pick (on a cheap contract) in this draft than overpay Hayward or lose him and get nothing in return.

And yes, I see Hayward as Pippen-esque. His #'s this year aren't that far off from what Pippen was doing at this stage of his career. Is he Pippen? No. Is he a true point-forward? Yes.
