Would you trade Hayward+assets for John Wall??

My proposal is purely hypothetical and for conversation purposes of roster building, not a direct endorsement of anything.

My main point is I don't want to see a lateral move involving Hayward.

Of course you don't Cy, of course you don't.

Not that I wouldn't move Exum & Hood for the right player, just not sure Wall is that guy unless Burks+ can be moved for a high volume shooting 2 guard

Exum and Hood for Wall is a steal. The Hayward trade is more plausible. But in the end, I'm with NAOS. This ain't happening.

Utah might not be the most glamorous landing spot for Wall, and he can do whatever he wants in the offseason .

Winning in the NBA is glamorous though, and thats what Utah can offer.

Ending the season with teammates in tears https://vine.co/v/iIlI7gQeVYn like the Wizards did, is far glamorous.. They also had the biggest drop in TV ratings of any NBA team..

This could be the off-season to try and pry Wall from the Wizards..

I would try to sign a Bazemore or Barnes. I'm ignorant to what our cap situation would be though. Might have to target a smaller fish like Allen Crabbe.

The slip stream caused by his ears while running could help us during fast breaks.

Definitely a problem that can be remedied down the line whether via trade or FA. Doubt WAS does it but I'd lean towards trading Exum/Hood/+(depending on the +) for Wall (assuming Wall checks out).

I am the biggest Exum homer out there. I think he will be a star.

That being said, I'd rather trade Exum for Wall than Hayward for Wall. There is a shot that Exum is never as good as Wall.

Also, Hayward wants to win. We can pay him more. He ain't going anywhere.

If trade Exum/Burks/this year's pick. Look at our team;

Wall/Mack/Neto
Sign a FA/Hood
Hayward/Ingles
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Withey

That would leave us roughly 18 million for a wing FA.

I'd try to sign Batum to a two year 15 per deal then sign Randy Foye. We'd look like this:

Wall/Mack/Neto
Batum/Foye
Hayward/Hood
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Whithey

That's a 55 win team. We'd compete for a 3-4 seed depending on Durant.

Really?

What star did we get for Dwill?

What star did Denver get for Carmello?

What star did OKC get for Harden?

What star did Minnesota get for Live?

What star did New Orleans get for Paul?

What star did Memphis get for Gadol?

In all cases it was high profile young talent on rookie deals and draft picks.

Let me see if I follow your logic here...since past trades of superstars did not net any stars in return, it's reasonable to assume this trend continues and Washington will be willing to trade their superstar for our young role players and picks? If that's how it works...let's also see what we can get for Lyles, Hood...? Maybe Kevin Durant?

I can't believe how people are panicking on this board. Sign H Barnes to a max -- that is ridiculous.

No, I wouldn't do any of these impulsive trades for Hayward. What has John Wall ever won? Let's see what we have with Exum and a healthy team going forward that should see the improvement of everyone, including big strides from Lyles, Hood, and Rudy.

I think some of y'all are lacking context here.. you're turning a blockbuster trade into an unrealistic massive rip off in Utah's favor.. Isn't that obvious??

Instead of thinking in terms of 'better' or 'upgrades' think in terms of safety, Hayward is not remotely as safe of an asset as Wall because he can walk next season.. This move adds flexibility to the roster because forecasting the salary structure will be easier.

The question is, is the deal in the OP enough to get Wall? would they ask for multiple 1sts?? Hayward could walk..

How much are we willing to pay Hayward to resign him, $25 mill, $30? What would you find reasonable? I would cringe if we go for the max and spend about 25% of the salary cap on him.

John Wall was 4th in the league in double-doubles, if you think they'd take Hood, when they have Porter and Oubre, over Hayward you're crazy... They're not trying to tank next year, they're trying to have a Portland type of rebound, while convincing Hayward to stay..

¾ market value. he;s a choke artist, and has one season to prove otherwise.

Good Question.

We know Hayward will demand (and get from someone) MAX.

We did this story 3 years ago.

The difference this time is Jazz do not have the power to match, so the ball is 100% in the Jazz's court to offer MAX , and 100% in Haywards court to accept.

The advantage Jazz have is they can pay Hayward more per year and give 5 years. But make no mistake, he has earned MAX money, get over it if you think otherwise.

After SIX seasons, I think we already know what Hayward is and isn't. He's a very good player, but has reached his ceiling.
Agree. Hayward career shooting percentages year by year: 48%, 45%, 43%, 41%, 44%, 43%.... Career average of 43.8% from the field.
Three point shooting by year: 47%, 34%, 41%, 30%, 36%, 34%... Career average of 36% from three.

I really like Hayward but 25-30 million is something I would not pay him.
