Would you trade the 3rd and 12th for Cleveland 1st this year and protected pick next year??

Why? Irving is not Rose or Wall. There's absolutely no guarantee he becomes a superstar. I'd rather have a big - or even Knight - and then get Singleton at #12.
The Jazz need a couple of players. If AK does not re-sign, the Jazz have CJ and Evans at SF. Or you play Hayward there and go with Bell or CJ as the starting SG. Been there, failed at that. No thanks. Plug in Harris and Hayward at PG and SG. A 4/5 rotation of Jefferson/Favors/Millsap. CJ MIGHT be serviceable as a backup 2/3. But this draft better net a viable player at SF, either as a starter or as a 20 min/per player. There will be decent options available at PG with the GS pick next season. This is one of the weakest years ever for PG.

I don't think Irving is going to be a superstar. I do think the guy is going to make a couple of AS games in his career. Ford predicts that he could be a poor man's Chris Paul. Anyway, my thought is that this draft is way weak. At 3 we could very well take a SF(if he can play the 3) in Williams if he drops to us. But otherwise, we are looking at Leonard as the next best SF on the board. Not saying Leonard is terrible or anything. Just saying that I would rather use a draft pick for a PG this year in a weak draft, as opposed to next year in what is supposed to be a very deep draft. I guess you have to look at the crop of draft prospects next year and ask yourself if you would rather pick one of them as a SF with the GS pick(if it is worse than 7th) or our own probably lottery pick. This would be a non issue if Barnes wouldn't have decided to go back to UNC. We would have probably taken him. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

You do not draft based on need whatsoever at #3. Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson's contracts are done in 2 years and could very well be offered something Utah can't afford. Kanter will be all of 20 or 21 years old then. Unless you have a superstar that can't be traded for equal value, you never ever draft this high on need.

I am not disagreeing with you. I was just trying to illustrate that Kyrie is the closest thing to a sure thing and if we had the 1st pick then I would take him. I would also take him 3rd if he miraculously fell to us because the Cavs wanted Williams and the Wolves wanted Kanter. It's about BPA at this point and if we are at 3 and Irving and Williams are off the board at that point then Kanter is our man. My point GE was that next year is a deeper draft and if we were focused on taking a PG(which for some reason the mock sites think we take Knight) with our first pick then we should move down to do so. Knight could be had IMO at 5 if the Cavs take Irving 1st overall. KOC may very well think Knight is the best guy at 3 but can be had with the 5th pick. In that case, we might see if the Raptors want to trade up to get Kanter. I just want to reiterate that Kanter is my guy at 3 right now(prior to the combine) if as expected Irving and Williams go 1st or 2nd.

Yeah, but you also don't draft on somewhat unproven potential when there is a guy there who is very skilled and does fill a need. I can just imagine Williams and Hayward averaging 40% from 3 as knock down shooters, then Favors and Jefferson dominating the paint. Then we bring off the bench Memo and Millsap who are both proven scorers with range, along side CJ Miles and our 12th pick. That's a pretty deep team, and with proper coaching, development(from mainly Favors and Hayward), and chemistry could challenge for a low seed in the playoffs right away.

Not that any of this really matters because it will most likely be that we don't have a choice, one or the other will be gone before we pick.

Bring back Wesley

3rd + Raja + CJ for Wesley Matthews and Luke Babitt. I know it sucks to give up a 3rd pick for someone we could have kept for free, but Matthews has proven that he is a semi-stud in this league and in this draft he would have gone very high. And, any deal that gets us rid of Raja must be a good one, right?

His draft would have gone high? Wasn't he undrafted?

The point is if everyone knew how good he would be and how instant an impact he would made, he would have been a very lucrative draft pick. In Wesley Matthews we know what we get here and now instead of having to work with yet another young prospect we do not know how good will be.

Either secure DWill in the draft or call Portland and ask for Gerald Wallace. If that doesn't pan out then dial Indiana and ask for Granger.

Millsap + 12th for Wallace + Wes (just kidding, that's way too sweet). I don't know what I'd give up for Granger.
