Didn't Karl Malone have a lot of character issues? More then Mr. Lance?
And he figured that Rush will be rehabbing most of the time hence he won't be 100% part of the team. Also recent good behaviour has to be taken into account as well.
shocker said:Fans I been hearing since 1982 just like you continually say the Jazz won't bring in people with character issues, I am showing the Jazz continually bring in people with character issues.
The key is not to have a whole team of knuckleheads. Good orgs can usually absorb a couple. We've had Kirk Snyder, Robert Whaley, and others that were worse people with far less upside. You could get rid of Lance in a New York minute at 27 mill over 3.
Not when you are trying to build a sustainable spurs like culture you do not take that type if risk. Raja, mark Jackson, Dsteve, booz, all harmed culture with selfishness. Jazz want Hayward Exum Burke to define a pass first team first culture and goof balls like lance would place this at risk
And you know this how???? Were you in the room????
We're all just speculating, but in my opinion Favors said to himself "I love this city, i love this team, I don't want to **** it for all it's worth, $12m (each year) is plenty for me and I'm happy to sign".
...
Fan is fanatical.

Remember that playoff series when Karl Malone was fist fighting with his team mates in the locker room? Yeah, I don't either. Other than Delonte West can you think of a more locker room poisoning thing to do than that? There are character issues that happen in a player's personal life and there are character issues that show up in the locker room. The first you may take a chance on. The second you just don't touch. . .
Sample size?How many players with character issues has Dennis Lindsey taken?
Exactly.
Good post. And it definately says alot about lances value.Aren't the real and relevant points as follows:
1. Lance and GH were both FA's;
2. Both were fishing for the most money they could get;
3. Another team thought GH was worth the max and offered it to him.
4. The best Lance could get was 9 mill a year.
5. The market has rated Lance a 9 mill a year player and GH a 15 mill a year player;
6. I think we all agree that there is not a 6 mill a year difference in the quality of player between Lance and GH.
7. However, there are obviously other factors at play in the market which have resulted in the above difference. I think it is safe to assume, that the market did not want to touch Lance, not only the jazz, but it must have been most of the nba. Accordingly, most of the nba has rated Lance as a huge risk/cancer and therefore were not willing to pay the money Lance would have received had he not had such characteristics.
8. The conclusion has to be that there was low demand for Lance, and therefore he only got 9 mill a year.
9. For whatever reason, the experts in the NBA had demand for GH and therefore the market put him at 15 mill a year.
10. Lastly, I don't think you can compare these two deals because, based on the above, it is clear that the majority of the nba put huge risk on Lance's character.

How about character issues that show up on the court? (ala the ear blowing?)
LOL ... wot???? And what was the neg for???? You do know I'm the JazzFanz Resident all-round-nice-guy right????
Let's crucify a guy for ear blowing. The very guy mind you that was probably the Pacers best player over the last two months of the season, including the playoffs.
Nickkk, don't take this the wrong way but please, take the rest of the day off and do some soul-searching.
Have you ever been ear blown before?
Excellent first post. I agree 100%.1st post! This is gonna be fun hehehe
‘Stockton said he would only play for the Jazz and then would meet with the owner and sign a deal. He made a demand in the summer of 1996 when tens of millions of dollars were flying around for free agent guards. He’d sign a $5 million per season deal, less than half of what other free agent guards were making, but he wanted to guarantee ice time in the Delta Center for his seven-year-old son’s hockey team.’
They just don’t make them like this anymore. Money helps yes, but it doesn’t guarantee happiness. Every year that passes money seems to take more over other values in the NBA. It’s turning into a GM vs. Agents more than anything, more business-like. The Spurs might be the last stance of what could be considered a team with a personality of it’s own due to players sticking around for years. Players taking pay cuts for the sake of their Spurs.
And hey, Hayward is in his right to try and make the most money he can, all I’m saying is that I see him with different eyes than I see Favors for example, always making it clear that he wants to stay. IMO, it’s not just about a player’s talents basketball wise but also about how he fits with the team in terms of team culture, chemistry and how bad you want to stay in a certain place or not. Hayward hasn’t shown me but a will to make as much money as he can and none of the other… That’s my issue with Gordon Hayward.
So you're saying that a team full of players with Hayward's contractual mindset would be better than a team full of players with Favor's mindset? I completely disagree. Favors showed leadership by putting the Jazz in a position where they had an increased chance to compete. I wish Hayward would have too, but instead he more than negated the advantage Favors had given us.Yeah but they shouldn't have to. And I really can't stand everyone who is berating a guy for getting paid for his services. Its what helps make Jazz fanz seem petty and clueless.
The fans are the ones being taken to the woodshed.Then why don't they play for the minimum if winning is so important? Why not for free? The owners took the players to the woodshed in the last CBA and now they want players to take even less? Sorry but that's BS.
