Yanny or Laurel ?

The word itself is Laurel.

Here, in more detail, is how it switched from Yanni to Laurel for me. I did not try the slider until after the fact. The slider lets me hear both. And I did not hold the speaker closer to my ear.

I listened to the original twitter link. I heard Yanni clearly. I relaxed and listened and something clicked in my mind. It was like hearing Laurel out of the corner of my ear, so to speak. The first time, Laurel sounded garbled, and it almost slipped by me altogether, and for that one second I thought "did I just hear Laurel then??". The next time was a clearer Laurel. Then, maybe once, at the most twice, I could go back and forth and hear both, then it became a very clear Laurel permanently.

All this took seconds to transpire. The slider demonstrates it changes with pitch, but listening to the original twitter link, I just remember something clicked in my mind and I caught Laurel and held onto it. It was really interesting how that happened without a slider changing the pitch. Also really interesting how I very quickly lost the ability to go back and forth between the two sounds.

I believe you should be able to go back and forth, with the original link, without using a slider, since for a few seconds, I was able to do that.

TBH, I don’t hear either one. I hear “Yammy.”

Only at the very end of the slider I can hear Yanny. Otherwise it is Laurel all the way.

Yeah I can't see how anyone can get Yanny from that, but if I put the slider all the way I hear YAMMY, and as others described, I still hear 'yanny' a tiny bit when moving it back but it's 90% Laurel to me.

Y'all remember the Karate Kid? Tell me, what color was or what was on the bandana he put on before the last match????

Serious question this may deserve it's own thread. Everyone remembers it one way, go back and check now.

let two girls at work listen to it, they hear Yanny all the way . So weird... they say they can't even hear L anywhere, when I can't hear Y until the end of the slider.

Yanny. I don't see how anyone can hear Laurel.

Are you being serious or just adding to the trolling? Doesn't sound like you so I think you are serious, which sounds insane to my Laurel hearing. I've been searching a ton for any linguistic reason and keep dead ending. La is a sound made by placing your tongue on your upper teeth, lips, or outside your mouth. Yanny can be made by placing your tongue against your lower teeth for emphasis or with a harder brush of the roof, or in ventriloquist style with a little upward tongue action.

I can't figure out any tongue or vocal actions that make this a possibility other than people (reddit and Australia) screwing with people.

I believe I read it was done by recording both words over each other but on different frequencies, it's like a radio, all the stations are there but the frequency you're in tune with is what you'll experience.

Makes one wonder how we sound to others at times, explains communication errors. We sound completely different to dogs etc.

Two people can look at the same space even, and see completely different realities. Each one valid, it's dependent on what vibration you're tuned to. Take 5 grams of shrooms and get back to me.

We're in layers of illusions. Even science admits this, that the ATOM is mostly all space, like 99%, then how can anything be solid? You can explore these things organically by practicing Yogic breathing/meditation techniques for years, or do the 5 grams of dried shroom thing to accomplish in about 20 minutes.

I'm guessing what you hear depends heavily on your speakers' frequency response.

It was white and dark blue. I had one.

Jazzgasm ask those around you, dont influence them in anyway. I was an 80s kid and watched that movie dozens of times, took shotokan myself. I remember distinctly it was different, me Friends and fam would joke we were about to metaphorically put it on. Asked my wife, she agreed with my recollection exactly and I didnt even tell her how I remembered it beforehand. It wasnt white and blue in MY reality.

Laurel.

It just means I hear lower frequencies better than higher, apparently.
