What's new

yet another stupid death in children gun related accident...yes, in USA of course.

Oh Jesus, really? I like you nightmare but this is your logic?

Unless you have a crystal ball and can know with 100% certainty when you would actually need to have a gun with you for protection, how do you know you won't get attacked at the grocery store, or school, or anywhere else you go? I'm not saying it's wise to take a gun everywhere you go, but I don't have a problem with people exercising their right to do so.

The answer should be - you do not need a gun in any of theses situations.
Meteor can hit you on the head while walking outside. Based on your logic you should wear helmet anytime you step outside.

I completely agree that you SHOULDN'T ever need a gun. But, since it's not a perfect world, sometimes you might.

How do you know a mountain lion or a bear won't attack you when you go to check your mail?
Should probably carry bear mace at all times, even in the city.

And you never know when a flash flood might hit so don't leave home without a flotation device

Is there a reason why people shouldn't be able to do any of those things? I get that it's not wise, just like it isn't always wise to carry a loaded weapon with you, but people still have the right to. I don't have a problem with it as long as they take the necessary precautions. The woman who was shot in this didn't and paid the price.

Not saying they shouldn't have the right to necessarily.
Just saying that it's unnecessary

People have the right to do lots of stuff that they never do.
I have the right to eat my couch but I somehow refrain from doing it even though it's not restricted

Oh my hell. There are no other words.

From what I understand the child was not the woman's child. She was caring for several children at the time.

Apparently she was a gun rights advocate, yet she was not properly carrying her firearm.

A gun should never be carried unholstered. They make purse holsters. She should have been using one.

I think a purse is a bad place to carry a gun even if it is holstered.

When carrying a concealed firearm you are required to keep it concealed and to always maintain positive control of it. Obviously she left the gun exposed and in reach of a toddler.

Yes, this woman was an idiot and a very poor advocate for gun rights. We get enough of that kind of advocate and I'll be on board for banning guns.

Side note, maybe AKMVP can confirm, since he's been there, but from what I hear that town is Aryan Nation HQ. She probably carries a gun incase any black people show up, or the evil government.

I think AKMVP, because he comes across as such a dickish troll at times (sorry AK, but you know you do and that it's your intent) has had his message lost here in translation and that's that we as a nation have a very unhealthy mentality for weaponry. And while it may cause some here to be butthurt because they believe themselves to be responsible gun owners (and they may very well be), it's IMO the truth. We're supposed to be a world leader, progressive, civilized, and on and on, and when you compare our gun deaths to say those of who I would consider our most like counterparts--European nations, Canada, Australia--we have a much higher rate of fatalities.

And all that said, I want to be clear and say I am very strong supporter of the 2nd amendment.

And that's the tragic thing, in my opinion. That gun rights advocates have really gone off the deep end with the idea that owning and carrying guns is always good and we should never talk about or even acknowledge the downsides to that mentality. As result of that, safety and responsibility are not part of the discussion. I wish the NRA was an organization that advocated for gun safety and responsible ownership and use. Guns have not always been such a polarizing party-line issue in the U.S. and I blame gun advocates for making it one.

I never said it should be illegal ( to carry the gun). Problem is with American mentality. No sane person would ever consider taking gun while shopping at 10 am in Walmart, lol that is just pathetic state of mind. Have your gun at home safely locked in case of burglary or something like that for self defense. Why would you need it while shopping? WHY????????

So if I'm ever at a movie theatre or a college campus and someone comes in and starts shooting (I know this would never happen but just go with me here) I should just call a timeout, run home, unlock my safe, grab my gun, head back and then defend myself? I wonder why nobody has ever thought of this before? It's brilliant!

If smart people all choose not to carry guns, then only stupid/crazy people will be armed. I'd prefer to have a few smart people packing, just in case one of the stupid people has a bad day. When one of the stupid people dies due to stupidity, carelessness, etc., it doesn't change my opinion. I will say that I am completely in favor of stupid people not having weapons, but until we figure out how to bring the nutties around to that way of thinking, I'm afraid we are all responsible for our own defense in a world where bad things happen all too frequently.

Having said all that, I believe most women and a lot of men would be better served with things like tazers and pepper spray. If you can't arm yourself in a responsible manner, do yourself and the rest of us a favor by using non-lethal forms of self-defense.

Two words... Darwin awards.

You should play dead.

Good thing is, you don't have to worry about someone coming into a movie theater and shooting you. Just like you don't have to worry about a bear attack.

You can choose to worry about getting shot if you want to, but you don't really need to worry about it. I will continue to go to the movies unarmed. Crazy I know. I guess im just really brave

Sometimes smart people do stupid things. Even smart people screw up and make mistakes on occasion. Not every gun accident that occurs is due to a stupid person. Accidents happen

Odds of that happening is probably lower than dying in plane crash. If that happens - well bad luck. Doesn't justify everybody carrying lethal guns.

Great point. There are gas guns, rubber bullets, etc. Plenty for self defense.
