Yet another trade idea (#5 pick)

I get the feeling that of the teams near the top, the Kings may be the most likely to trade down, or possibly out of the #5 pick if they can get what they want. They've tried the OKC model and failed terribly. I think they want someone with experience that's still young, and knowing the Maloofs: cheap. I'd give up Millsap (I've mentioned numerous times here why I'd move him this offseason even though he may be my favorite Jazz player), and a future 1st (even the hallowed GS pick) for #5 this year.

I'm probably one of the few that agrees with you. I love Millsap, but based on what we need for this rebuild project, I'd take Harrison Barnes over Millsap, and I feel pretty safe saying he'll be available at #5.

#1 - I'm not sure I'd do it, but I would not be quick to say no.
#2 - I doubt they'd do it.

I say yes.

At least one of our bigs has to go. Otherwise they will be gone on their own next year. And if they arent, all that means is more bench time for Kanter and Favors.

Its a no brainer. KOC needs to cash in on these assets. Infact he should have done it last year. Now our barganing position has been weakened.

My guess is that neither side does it. KOC has made it clear he doesnt want to add youth. The Kings would be stupid to do it.

Nobody trades the 5th pick for Millsap and if someone 's gotta go as a veteran player, he's Big Al.

Totally agree with the fact that moving Al should be the first priority, but Millsap's game + contract are a lot more attractable, so he's going to be a ton easier to move. If KOC could move Al for a decent package, I'm sure he'd do it, but that's a lot easier said than done.

it costs more than paul millsap to get into the top five in ANY draft, and that's probably even more true of THIS draft.

only twice in five years has a team traded into the top five outside of a "move-up" trade, and in both cases they had to give up an all-star or multiple starters and take back undesirable contracts:

** minny trades mike miller & randy foye, takes back salaries of etan thomas, darius songaila, oleksy pecherov in order to get the #5 (rubio)
** seattle gave up ray allen and glen davis' draft rights, then took back salaries of wally szcerbiak and delonte west to get the #5 (green)

Yeah Millsap is more attractive player than Big Al for the other teams but let's not overrate him. 5th pick for Millsap become just big steal for us but Kings' GM is not Isiah Thomas

My original trade was Millsap + GS pick, not just Millsap. In our day and age where top picks are considered franchise saviors I could see how that would still be fleecing SAC, but in reality, I think it's good deal straight across (especially if SAC can extend Paul). Considering where that franchise is, I think Paul is a perfect fit, and I think plugging in a 19 yr old into that situation is not a good idea (see Wall, John).

It's not just all about the young player but the other players surround him. John wall is bad example because he has been playing for the wizards! They have been trying to clean the roster for years, yet could not succeed. You think Kyrie Irving is unsuccesful? Still i do think your trade idea is not good enough for the Kings.

I think they might say yes if we let them go back on their pick last year and throw jimmer and burks in there too. But maybe not and jazz brass are high on burks(I am too) do I don't know if the jazz would do that

Maybe you didn't get what I was trying to say. The Kings are like the Wizards. You can't just keep throwing a young top 10 pick into the mix and hope it all works out. Both the Kings and the Wizards have been doing this for years and it doesn't work. The Wizards finally got wise to how it works and got rid of McGee for Nene. I think that was a good trade for both teams by the way.

Wizards and Kings are two different structures. So the way wizards do is not the true form for the Kings so i think they will keep the 5th pick and still they would say No to your trade idea.

Hey Ersan, I get it, you don't think SAC would do the trade.

I'd only do it if we were nuts about Lillard. Real nuts. Otherwise, I think Millsap + GSW pick is slightly overpaying for the #5 in this draft.

Assuming that Davis, MKG, Thomas Robinson, and Beal are off the board (these should be the first 4 picks, IMO), he would have to be the target. Nobody else (Barnes, Drummond, Lamb) makes a scrap of sense.

Personally, I think Sacramento should be trying to move up to #2 or #3, not down. Go get MKG or Thomas Robinson.

I think Sacramento's trade partner for the #5 pick will be the Bulls in order for the Bulls to draft Harrison Barnes. I see the Bulls trading Deng or Boozer to the Kings for the #5 and the shedding of either Fransico Garcia or John Salmons' contracts.
