What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Ah. The 35% max on KD.
What can Kyrie get? Is it $32.7 even if he is "supermax" eligible? Tobias is eligible for $32.7.

So if Kyrie is $32.7, the Nets have just enough to give them both (they have $47). If Brooklyn was a few million away from affording KD AND Kyrie, why would they take back Prince if Prince's salary could get in the way of affording KD?

I think Brooklyn has Kyrie in the bag and also a great feeling about Tobias. If they get KD instead, they make the salary dropping moves. If they don't which is likely, they roll out Kyrie and Tobias and flip a big finger to East rivals Boston and Philly.

Yeah... if its Kyrie and Jimmy they are good. KD gets more money. Everyone always say guys can take a small paycut, but I get the impression its an ego thing and they will push back.

It would make sense that if you have Kyrie, KD, Caris that you have a fair amount of creation and don't necessarily need it from Spencer... I think he'd be the one to go. I think he's absolutely worth a first, but not two... so imo it would be a first plus another asset (maybe Grayson, maybe a second, maybe a gift certificate to Applebee's).
Yeah, in addition to my last post:

It could be Kyrie for sure and a very good feeling about either Butler OR Tobias. Butler makes more sense because they got Prince to play the 4.

Kyrie is eligible for the 32M max... so they have some work to do. Prince makes peanuts and is an asset. I think they are a few million short, but KD may not be the most likely get. They are an easy half step away from being able to get enough for KD and don't have to do anything if it is Kyrie and Jimmy.

For some reason I don't think its Kyrie and Tobias... Kyrie has been linked to both KD and Jimmy. If the Knicks were under different ownership I'd think they would both go there. Brooklyn makes a lot of sense for those guys personality-wise and they have better functional pieces in place to help. Knicks have asset pieces, good picks, and some intriguing prospects... vets like KD and Kyrie don't care much about that stuff unless it turns into players they think can help now.

Good points.

If KD goes to NY while Kyrie and Butler go to Brooklyn, I think that's amazing. It would be an incredible development for the league. The East gets more balance (Philly and Boston both lose stars) and the best team loses one of their best two players with KD leaving.

From there....

- who stays and who goes from Milwaukee?

- does Tobias re-up with Philly because they can pay more or does he bail?

- where does Russell go?

- does Kemba join KD in his hometown NY?

New dream scenario... The math is very close, but I believe we could trade Jae and a 2020 1st for Dinwiddie and the difference in salary would be enough to give them room to sign KD and Kyrie. They are currently just a couple million short and Jae makes 2.8M less than Spencer.

If we waive Favs, waive and stretch Korver or just waive him and neto, we then have enough to sign Tobias to a max deal. I'm not sure its the ideal fit and we could do other things with that space (maybe just keep Favs and sign another $10-12M FA), but if we could get Brooklyn to agree ahead of time or on July 1 we could then go shopping.

I'm all for that. Farfetched, but I love it.

I'm honestly don't understand why someone would be in full support of getting Conley and be so utterly disappointed with Love. I admit I haven't watched either one of them play all that much, but to me it seems like acquiring either one should be viewed pretty similarly. Conley is older and more expensive, he might provide a little more defensively at his position but the Jazz are giving up significant size (because of the loss of favors and they are likely starting Crowder at the 4 and DM at the 2). They both have the kind of game that should age okay, but they both have also missed a significant amount of games over the last couple of years. I don't think of either one as a great consolation prize, but If I'm giving up Favors and filling in so much salary I think I'd rather have Love, because hes's younger, cheaper, and I think he fills a bigger need. I just dont want another old PG rental especially at Conleys price.

I think the biggest issue is that Love has two more years on his deal than Conley. I do think there are some serious advantages to Love that people aren’t recognizing. I think people are concerned about him not being as much of a creator. Bringing him in would probably increase the chance of Ricky coming back, but if you could grab Beverley with the MLE, I think you’d be looking at a top three seed next year.

Everyone is going to be so disappointed when no big FA comes to Utah. I'm prepping myself for it now. It's still going to be a fun and while FA period though!

Adding Tobias AND Dinwiddie would be one hell of an offseason

It’s about contract length but moreso type of player. Conley can play alongside basically any starting group... won’t be targeted on defense... can create with the ball in his hand... has good offball value.

Love has defensive issues and isn’t going to create from the perimeter. Shooting is good, passing is good, but he’s not going to provide the thing we need most. If Conley has a 4 year deal I’d have some reservations too but I would probably still think he’s worth it the next two years. Loves production already is well below his contract number imo and that is going to get exponentially worse in the last years of his deal.

It’s okay to get your hopes up and get disappointed... that’s like a lot of life... can’t walk around like Eeyore all sad and gloomy. Agree it will be fun... enjoy the ride all.

I’d settle for one or the other... but yeah it’s a beyond rosy pie in the sky thing I wanted to throw out there.

You can't be let down if you don't expect the world! And you're right, life is definitely full of disappointments. I know that all too well trying to make music my career, lol.

I’ve gotta think that the chance that Tobias stays in Philly goes up significantly if Butler doesn’t (re: Butler going to Brooklyn).

I don’t know... I think they throw out a 5 year max either way. Tough situation to read.
