What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If Kemba goes to the Lakers or NY, the Lakers are no longer a max space team and NY only has 1 spot left. By staying in Charlotte, two major markets have a max spot available.

I don't think he was coming to us, but almost any team in the NBA with 2019 max space is more enticing than Salt Lake City. Kemba leaving helps us.

As for Charlotte, they are in cap hell for a year but they are quite clear after Biyombo, Marvin, MKG, and others expire in summer 2020.

I don’t think either/any of those teams were going to hunt for Tobias or Russell though. They likely roll the space forward and go after AD. They might swipe a one year rental guy we wanted... but those markets aren’t offering a multi year deal to Bojan, Rudy Gay or Julius Randle types.

It just isn’t a perfectly effecient market so what Charlotte does likely has no bearing on our situation.

Let’s say Garland or Hunter slip to the Hawks at 8.

Is there any way we could trade them Favors (they need a defensive presence badly), something else (Allen or Exum?) and 23 for 8?

I wonder if they’d do that. They have their 1 and their 4. Huerter looked pretty damn good too. And while Dedmon and Len were decent in some ways, they had the 3rd worst defensive rating in the league. That always starts with the 5 imo.

I think it only happens if they draft who we want and we have someone at 23 who was high on their board. I don’t think it happens though. Just thinking how we could get high. Doubt that’s the way. I think Atlanta wants one more young piece and then makes a move like that next summer.

Dang, looking back on the 2011 draft. We stunk a big one drafting that year. We could of had klay and Leonard
Oof!!! Not one team would’ve picked Klay at #3 that year, and no one could’ve predicted how good Leonard was going to be. He’s not even close to the player he was in college he was viewed as a pf in a sf’s body who couldn’t shoot and not that skilled playing on the wing. He was viewed as the worst kind of tweener. No one could’ve predicted he’d be doing what he’s doing in the nba today.
While that is true, they could have picked him too. They obviously decided to go the route of trading the pick.
We don’t have any idea who the jazz liked, for all we know it could’ve been anyone.
I think Charlotte bawks at the Kemba supermax tbh
Agreed. There’s no reason what so ever for Char. To do a super max, as they would be stuck in no man’s land for the next five years. That’s the very definition of insanity in my opinion

No reason whatsoever?

The Hornets will draw 7,000 a game if they don’t retain him.

You say this as if Charlotte have shown themselves to be anything but incompetent over the last few years

Correct... we can assume they will make the wrong decision here.

And by year 3-4 of that Albatros of a contract when hornet fans realize there’s no future, they’ll be seating 7,000 in that arena. At least by not signing Kemba they’ll have a chance at building a team.

Ehhh... they are paying a billion dollars to trash players now... Kemba won’t be worth his deal then but he’ll still be better than what they have now in bad money.

You sign him to trade him either this year or next and hopefully get some good assets to rebuild.

They’ll be off of Biyombo, MKG and Williams after this season. At the latest. They can try to build around Kemba, Bridges and maybe Lamb, if they can shuffle money around.

So, a small pg that can score and two glue guys. Pg’s are important, but not that important. Look at Westbrook, there aren’t any as dominant as he is as fare as putting up crazy stats and he hasn’t done anything for his team. Even with the picture you paint they have no hope or future.

So Tobias has two brothers... one is in this years draft one played in the g league... stealth move... draft his bro with our second and sign both brothers to two way deals.

Do it.

To be fair to the point guards of the league, Russell Westbrook is running almost entirely off of reputation at this point and there is a very real argument that he hurts his team more than helps come playoff time. Thought this year he turned a corner when he started deferring to PG mid regular season but after PG's shoulder got busted he went back to old habits.
