Youtube: 2001 Mavericks/Jazz - Game 1 - (Nowitzki's 1st Playoff Game)

Thanks for posting!

If a lockout does happen we should have a game of the week or something - highlighting a game or series from the past. Just to get us through the slow times and distract from the painful trade scenarios taking over the board. It could be stickied at the top for that week or few days - starting this fall. Just a thought.

You watch these and can't believe how much emotion is in that arena. That's what's missing with the Jazz and the NBA as a whole these days.
It does feel like the whole enterprise as a whole has become more and more "sanitized" in the negative sense. It's more and more a business and less and less a game.

I feel like the evolution of sports in this area is summed up pretty well by championship victory celebrations nowadays. Used to be that fans would rush the court/field. Now the fans are all kept at arm's length by security, and the only people who rush in are the media. It's just less personal that way. I'm not saying it's wrong, but that's just the way it is now, and I can't help but be a little nostalgic when I see videos of teams winning titles and being immediately surrounded by hordes of fans.

Glad we agree.

Trigger, you're posting on this forum but not the Cubs forum any more??? I can't say as I blame ya..

I watched this whole clip and it reminded me of why I am a Jazz fan and what made it so special. Stockton, even at 39, was making passes and plays we don't see nowadays. I often wonder how great Malone would have been without a guy like Stockton. Malone was my favorite player but I don't think he would have been anywhere what he was without a guy like Stockton. I guess this is prevalent in all sports. What would Rice be without Montana/Young? etc etc...

Those Stockton passes were just crazy. Makes me realize that I don't appreciate him enough even though I consider him my favorite player of all time (yes, Fes is #2).

Good to see you Homertone. The Cubs MB soured for me over the last couple of months and so I migrate here to discuss the draft. We ended up get Kanter and Burks and I was very happy about that. Anyway, glad to see you made the move as well Hummy. I hope to keep in touch with you.

Your boy,

Trigg3r Talk to you soon.

Like this idea - actually just finished cutting up some highlights from about 25 Stockton&Malone games, which I'll be sure to post in the unlikely event a lockout takes place. :D

I think that has more to do with it being a Saturday afternoon game more than anything. Those weekend day games always seemed more lively than the weeknight games that often started at ridiculous hours due to national airing on TNT.

The last two playoff games I think that compare well to this atmosphere was the Mother's Day Sunday game against the Lakers in 2008 and game three of the Western Conference Finals a year earlier. Those crowds were much more intense and energetic than the crowds from the later games (at least from what I remember).

That's the thing I miss the most about the NBA on NBC - the weekend day games. Their double and triple-headers, especially during the playoffs, made my weekends.

Now, though, it's very limited throughout the season.
