What's new

Zach Lavine's rise to greatness

8 points, 3 assist, 2 steals, 0 rebounds in 29 minutes. All on 2/11 shooting.

The Prophet didn't do so good either, 2-10 for 6 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist.

Tough day for Hack's puppies.

I think LaVine can be good down the road, but to predict 18 ppg with 4 rebound and 5 assist is ridiculous. That might be his peak production if he reaches his potential 6 years from now.

If he was on the Sixers it wouldn't be all that unreasonable.
But the T-Wolves have so much talent they want to develop and 3rd options on team favorable contracts that they want to highlight to get more assets via trades.

So if Lavine got to chuck on the worst team in modern NBA history he might be a "star"?

No but he might produce a statline in that vicinity since
a) no other team cares about preparing too diligently
b) someone has to score
c) none talked about shooting %s

The T-Wolves won't be good, but they got a lot of talent they want to expose or trade chip whose value they want to establish.
Like think about OKC having the Kanter contract. I'd argue that a healthy Nikola Pekovic is a way better fit for a contender. He won't protect the basket, but he'll be more decent than Enes effin Kanter. OKC has Ibaka to help that out and Pekovic is a way better back to the basket player than Kanter is. And he only costs $12M compared to Kanter's 17 a year and his contract is 1 year shorter. If he stays healthy a team like OKC could try to swap their low post presence and add some future draft picks etc etc. Or Cameron Payne.

Then they got Bjelica on a killer contract, Gorgui Dieng who's probably a borderline case age wise for their planned contention core. Garnett in a wheelchair, Adreian Payne, Damjan Rudez and Towns as their primary, flexible development target.
How they gonna fulfil their plan to have Muhammad play smallball PF when he lost his weight and is a midget compared to Dray Green? And ofc with all their depth.
Wiggins will see the majority of wing minutes, and next to him there's LaVine, Martin(Some team will get desperate around the deadline with the popularity of 3 point shooting that they feel they lack in order to have a chance in the playoffs and buy him if he's doing alrite)
They'll want to play some SHabazz as well on the wing. There's not gonna be enough minutes for LaVine to produce these stats in Minnesota even in a empty stats fashion on a bad rebuilding team. Maybe he can get minutes if both Rubio and Tyus Jones need their legs amputated but I wouldn't bank on it tbh.

I still think it would. Not many 2nd year players average 18 ppg w/ 5 assist and 4 rebounds. That's a stat line that took Hayward 5 years to achieve.

Disagree completely. There is definitely the minutes and opportunity for LaVine to get the averages Hack predicted if he was good enough. He will probably get around 12-14 shots per game, which is enough to average 18 points. He won't though and it will be more like 13-14 points.

Why do you think he'll be such poor shooter and scorer. You said he'll shoot 41%. He already shot 42 in his rookie year. That usually goes up. He's gonna get a lot of easy buckets at the rim because of his athleticism. And he shot 35% from 3 his rookie year. Had multiple games where he hit a ton of 3's. He's proven he can shoot. That combined with being a great free throw shooter equals a better scorer than you are predicting. The only thing that will stop him is if he doesnt get a lot of touches or shots. Which I think he will. Him and Wiggins are gonna be the top 2 options in the starting unit. He might even get more opportunities than Wiggins because he'll have the ball in his hands more often.

just came here to post that. Obviously LaVine is destined for greatness. All of last year's stats demonstrate it. Every one of them.

You two are hilarious.

That article sucked.

Here's basically what is says...

Zach Lavine sucks because people like his jumping ability and flashiness, but he might still be good. Kevin Martin sucks too, but he's also really good. Maybe he should be traded. Maybe not. Maybe he should play in front of Lavine. Maybe not. Lavine sucks. Maybe. I'm not sure. Maybe not. We'll see what he's got.

Great. Thanks Zach.l Lowe. What an insightful riveting hopper hater article. You sound like the girlfriend of NAOS.

It actually was fairly insightful. You just chose to ignore the cold-hard facts about how ****ty Lavine was last year.

I thought Hack would like it, it was rather pro-Lavine I thought.

So was it pro Lavine or not?

There are two different opinions right here.

It's exactly what I said it was. A flip flop NAOS-esque sit on the fence opinion. Except hes more hating on him, but covering his ***. He over exaggerates his deficiencies too.

I don't find that insightful. Lavine was a rookie. And compared to most rookies, had a pretty good year. His hateful piece of writing is a stuck in the present sack of garbage. Instead of seeing his potential, he chooses to focus on the negativity instead. It's just not how I look at players. I choose to look at the potential. People in this world are way too quick to write off a young player. It's down right dumb to do so. People get better most of the time. It happens year in and year out.

you should be able to support this claim with evidence.

Not how Hacl see it. Only Hacl sees through to the truth. Zach Lowe don't know ****. All stats are damned lies.

What stats are you even talking about? His real plus minus? You really hung up on that? You really think that means anything. How do you not understand that they are stats that are dramatically effected by who your teamates are, who your coaches are? All of that. His personal statistics were just fine for a rookie. They actually like pretty spectacular in some games. Why aren't you talking about those? It's because you are retard who thinks you can win an argument with garbage. Just find some number that makes him look bad, and ignore all the factors.

He was far better than Exum, and I bet you think Exum will be good. Exum was pretty bad as a rookie. So he out played him and was drafted lower.

so, No?... you can't support with evidence?

Exum was a plus-defender as a 19-year old... every metric supports that. That's not nothing. There were a string of games where he had the 5th best Stay-In-Front percentage of any guard in the NBA.
