“Kyle’s unique in the sense that players his age who have had success aren’t usually open to trying new things,” says Snyder, now Utah’s head coach. “It makes them uncomfortable.”

We might not know if Snyder will be a great head coach. But, we do know that he makes basketball players better. Whether or not he is here in 4 years, this is an amazing hire for Utah.
 
Seeing that Snyder had a hand in helping Korver makes me happy that he is our coach. He seems to be focusing (based off of quotes and staff higherings) on player development and that gives me hope he will improve this young teams abilities.

They traded a boatload for Gail Goodrich and paid an even heavier price when two of those pieces went on to become Hall of Famers. They essentially had the rights to Magic Johnson, Moses Malone and Dominique Wilkins within a 5 year span. They got rid of them because they were stupid and trying to hit a homerun without having the necessary front office skills to build a team.

Had they kept them all, it would have been very interesting to see the results of that team.

That's literally in the first/second paragraph of OP's linked article on Grantland. I have no problem with Real GM, but come on. Why not support the site that actually produced that info rather than linking to Real GM when it's in the link in the first post?

And I didn't read the Grantland article, because I don't care.
 
It's always great to have specialists. You need guys who are primarily just shooters, defenders, rebounders, etc. You aren't always going to find perfectly well-rounded players. As they say, a team is a sum of its parts. I do wish that we had more shooting specialists.

Disagree.
We had FANTASTIC specialists in Boozer, Okur and AK. Eaton was one of the best defenders of all time. But when a player can only play on one side of the ball, he's a liability. Korver is a passable defender, but he's an *******. I will NEVER forget him admitting he passed up shots to protect his 3-PT record. Jazz were in a playoff race and desperately needed his offense. Instead, he decided to forgo the very reason for being on the team. INEXCUSABLE!

Disagree.

Boozer, Okur and AK were main parts who lacked important aspects of the game. I think the guy you quoted doesn't talk about that type of players, he talks about specialists with much more limited roles on the teams. Like shooting bigs such as Novak or Bonner, defensive specialists like Battier or Tony Allen, shooters like Miller, Korver or rebounders like Reggie Evans, Marcus Camby, screeners like Collison etc.
