Zach Lowe tells Utah (and a couple other teams) what to do in free agency

Care to show a minute allotment? Because my comparison already took this "ingenious" idea into account.

Exum (28 mpg) (Burks 20 mpg)
Middleton (28 mpg) (Burks 8 mpg) (Hood 12 mpg)
Hayward (30 mpg) (Hood 18 mpg)
Favors (32 mpg) Hayawrd (5 mpg) (Lyles 11 mpg)
Gobert (32 mpg) (Lyles 6 mpg) (Pleiss 10 mpg)

*Obviously due to change based on who performs well with what lineups*

Say we sign K.J. McDaniels.

Exum (30 mins), Burks (13 mins), Neto (5 mins)

Burks (17 mins), McDaniels (20 mins), Hood (11 mins)

Hayward (27 mins), Hood (17 mins), McDaniels (4 mins)

Favors (25 mins), Lyles (18 mins), Hayward (5 mins)

Gobert (32 mins), Favors (7 mins), Pleiss (9 mins)

That's a total of 48 mins per positon and total minutes for each player would look like this:

Exum 30 mins

Burks 30 mins

Hayward 32 mins

Hood 28 mins

McDaniels 24 mins

Favors 32 mins

Gobert 32 mins

Lyles 18 mins

Pleiss 9 mins

Neto 5 mins

You can tweak it around a little any way you want, but that looks pretty spread out and even if you ask me.

Just stop with McDaniels.

Dude is not good at basketball. He would not be able to get minutes over Joe Ingles and Millsap would probably beat him too.

Brooklyn is moving rapidly toward extensions with free agents Brook Lopez and Thad Young, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Not sure if serious. We could get him for 1/3 of what Green or Middleton would cost and he wouldn't need as much minutes as them.

You suggested getting McDaniels for 7 million dollars per year (or 6.5 per year) which is ridicullous and not 1/3rd of what Green/Middleton would get. They are both 16 million dollar max players at most (they can't get more than that). I'd rather have someone who can play basketball and pay them the max than give a bench player rotation player money when they aren't a rotation player.

Burks at PG; Hayward at PF. That's causing two players to play out of position just to accommodate KJ MickeyD. If we're going to do that, may as well sign a veteran stud. And are talking about the player who shot 29% from deep?

As free agency opens, another NBA source repeats the Utah Jazz' interest in having Raul Neto join the team next season.

Greg Rose @GRose27

@Tjonessltrib Jazz targeting backup 5s in FA? If so, who?

Tony Jones ‏@Tjonessltrib

They are working on Tibor Pleiss right now.

Hell yes.

I get you-- I just really really think that playing 70% of Alec's minutes at the 1 is neutering his effectiveness.

To me it just seems most parsimonious to leaving the 2 up to Burks and Hood, resting on the high likelihood that one of our PGs learns the position competently, and wait till February.

Yeah, we could prob get him for 5 mil which is 1/3. Dude plays defense, not sure how he is a scrub.

Yeah, we are talking about that scrub.

Sign Pleiss, bring Neto if you are gonna cut ties with Cotton or BJB, and call it a season in terms of Free Agency.

Feel free to entertain trades tho

We have Millsap who does the same thing, and might even do it better, for 800K.

Millsap has ZERO scoring ability. Plus I am just guessing, who knows if the Rockets would even match 2-3 mil a year.

Thunder have agreed on 1-year deal with Arkansas' Michael Qualls, source tells RealGM. OKC monitoring Qualls' rehab for tears in both knees.

WOW! That's a great gesture from OKC... A bit weird to use a roster spot on him and a bit weird to pay him money when they will be in the luxury tax most probably. They must really like him...
