Zach Lowe tells Utah (and a couple other teams) what to do in free agency

Even funnier when you realize the Kings traded away Stauskus to get Rondo when they could have just drafted the young/talented version of Rondo in the draft last year when they passed on Elfrid Payton to draft Stauskus.

Just listened to Dennis Lindsey on the radio - he pretty much said they decided to skip the wing FA market and show trust in Hayward-Hood-Alec rotation. Added Elijah to the list and talked about him and his defensive impact(I think it's about certain he's coming back next season from what he was saying about him). They haven't even explored getting any of the major FAs on the wing.

So he says. Not like he would ever say Danny Green turned us down for millions less to stay in SA. Hood will improve, but second year players simply don't move the needle that much.
And he went on for a whole minute about Elijah, c'mon now, talk about trying to sell the fanbase some swampland. DL struck out, but luckily he (and KOC) has built a good enough roster he can
fall back on and have a puncher's chance at the playoffs next year.

If Millsap starts hitting 3's he becomes a pretty good player. He had a solid D-League 3pt% over his career there. He should be a better shooter from deep than he showed this past year.

Now Wes won't take their money... totally used the Kings to get Dallas to up their offer (my guess this was his real "interest" in the Kings). Monta says no, Rondo just started talking with LA, anyone else left who won't take their money?

Our roster going into next season will probably look like this:

Exum/Burke/Neto
Hood/Burks/Millsap
Hayward/Ingles
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Pleiss

Hood and Burks are interchangeable, I'm not sure who starts yet.

That's three spots left (maybe for Booker, Hanlan, and Cotton) for the Jazz to use.

Not to mention that Rondo's value is so deservedly shot that they are bidding against no one and don't need to clear room like that.

Then again, with the Lakers and Knicks completely floundering, they might actually decide to go after Rondo.

I can't wrap my mine around that Kings trade. Just unreal.

Here, have one of our prized prospects and a draft pick so we can do a salary dump, so we can sign no one of importance in free agency, and still continue to suck, while taking a giant step backwards.

WTF? Seriously. How do you even own a team and be that dumb?

On top of how dumb that deal was. They are making an even bigger mistake not trading Cousins. If they could have had Randle and Russell for him they are fools for not taking that.

Give me Randle, Russell, and Stauskus over Cousins and some junky overpaid free agent. At least with that I have hope and can push the reset button on the team culture and attitude.

And the other side of this coin is the guy so many like to trash (Hinkie) pulls off another gem of a rebuilding move.

I have to say, I REALLY REALLY like that roster. I'm glad we have not overpaid anyone

Is the Sacramento trade to Philly conditional on signing the targeted FA? Is that deal completed?

Man Hinckie preyed on the weak on that deal.

I'd never thought I'd see someone say that, but it's true. Robbery.

May not mean anything but Jazz have delayed Lyles signing. DL saying they have a couple of things up in the air and want to preserve the cap space. Not sure if he's playing in the Utah SL.

I would imagine he still would given that contracts are slotted. In the NFL something similar came up this year - Dante Fowler went #3 to the Jags and tore his ACL in a voluntary team workout like a week after the draft before his contract was done. In those cases I think they have a good faith agreement that the player will participate as long as the team doesn't back out if there is an injury.

It must be something halfway decent and semi-large because the difference in caphold is only $350k... would think the extra practice and summer league look would be fairly important to us.

Marco Belinelli just signed with Sacramento for 3 years, $19 million

Robin Lopez for 4 years, $54 million.

I would have hated either of those deals for the Jazz. Still think that Tobias Harris will be the best bang for their buck IF they sign a free agent this offseason. Can't think of any unsigned guys that I'd want for the type of money being thrown around. Expect some dominos to fall once LMA and DeAndre Jordan make their signings official.

i think there is a good salary dump type trade coming where we can pick up a player or pick.

Oh you mean the one we should have got from Sacramento that Philadelphia got?

We didn't have enough space for that one... it likely depends on where LA or other free agents go.

So now Robin Lopez is making more than Favors?

Favors might be the best bargain in the league after Curry.

^ Mike Conley makes 9.5 mil next year.

I hope the Spurs sign Aldridge so they won't be able to match on Cory Joseph. I hope the Jazz make a run for him.
