jazz need to be 4th or 5th to avoid lakers

I think jazz is in a good position as far as playoff position is concerned. By being 4th or 5th position, jazz will avoid the lakers until the conference final, jazz is currently in 6th, u have to think new orleans wil move down to 6th.

I'm hoping OKC moves up to 3rd, by facing dallas 1st round and spurs in 2nd round is a much easier path to the conf final rather than fighting with the defending champ.

If OKC ends up in 3rd, they got a pretty good chance to knock out the defending champ in 2nd round, even if that doesnt happen, i'm hoping some serious injuries occur in lakers' lineup that the jazz can take advantage of in the conf final..

road to the champion starts with been in 4th or 5th position !!!!

yes because we have totally shown we can beat Dallas and the Spurs this year...

This. Right now the Lakers are not the top worry or the top dog. It will be the same outcome against the Spurs, the Mavs and maybe even OKC right now.

i think with a healthy AK, u have to think we can beat Dallas and Spurs.
Well, the Jazz are 0-4 against the Mavs and Spurs this year, and Kirilenko played in all of those games. I like your optimism, though.
Honestly, it's early February, we should all be alot more worried about how the Jazz are playing basketball, not who they're likely to face 2 months from now.

jazz were 1-3 vs denver in regular season and beat them in the series.

mavs are 2 players team with Dirk and Terry, without Butler, jazz can double on Dirk and leave former jazzman stevenson or marion open, these 2 guys are poor outside shooters and wont make the shots in crunch time.

spurs is playing great basketball, but u have to ask if Duncan can hold up in the playoff, this guy's offensive production is down year by year, only threat is spurs' backcourt, dwil will play even if not better than parker, and we have defensive specalist raja stop Manu in crunch time, with a better front court of Al, Ak, Sap and hopefully Memo, jazz wil eat Spurs' front court alive. jazz in 6 i think.

You're right GSAT, your optimism is proof that the jazz have the league exactly where they want them. killer thread.

To hell with the Lakers.

We can probably beat them once or twice in a series...

San Antonio on the other hand.....

LA has dominated us for the past few years. SA has dominated the Lakers this year. And SA has dominated us for most of the past 12 years.

I say we avoid them.

If we hit the playoffs with any sort of momentum and can actually be healthy for the first time in 5 seasons than I say we have as good a chance as any to beat any team in the league. It's all about how high or low you are going into the big show, if we can hit our stride at the right time you never know.

This whole philosophy of dodging teams is so weak and stupid. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Period.

I guess some fans want to see us get as far in the playoffs as we can. I would rather face the tough guys up front and do or die. That way if we do get past them, then good things are likely to happen. If we don't then management can't say "well this team got us to the 2nd round/WCF. They just need some time. The improvements will all be internal." and maybe they will do something to help us fight for that championship.

Thats what you thought when the Jazz were finished off quickly by the Lakers in 2009. what happened next? Nothing much. If it is not "internal improvement" it will be "injuries". The FO will find some excuse to sell the BS that this team is of championship caliber. This season they already have several excuses-3 new starters, 2 new players in starting 5 and Memo's delayed comeback. So you have to wait for another 2-3 years and be patient while we "develop".

How about KOC's recent escape line though? "We are just 3 games off of division leader". So reassuring.

Barring an blockbuster trade, I'd rather see the Jazz miss the playoffs this year. There's no sense losing early every year. Players need that extra rest to get healthy and work on their games. It would also move them up in the draft, and hopefully, send a good shot of reality to the FO.

I really don't see the point of this thread. If we were playing well then yeah, decent thread. But as it stands, we simply are garbage, and ideally we need to avoid a slew of teams in the West...which is impossible.

Why would anyone want us to miss the playoffs? For a #14 draft pick and future roster clogger/bust/pay roll? You always wanna get in there and then at least roll the dice. Going forward.. shouldn't Al get some legit post season experience? What about Hay-slice?

The whole notion that "To be the best, you must beat the best!" sounds like some cliche martial arts flick catch phrase. You look over the years, how many teams have won championships because of lucky breaks in the seeding? Do you think those Chips feel any less "deserving"? Hell no.
