Then Gaga is a huge fan of Dale Bozzio.

Other than myself I'd imagine that YB is the only other poster here that may remember the band Missing Persons from the early 80's.

It would seem Miss Gaga was digging through her mother's old LP collection and came across a Missing Person's album and thought it would be a good idea to emulate lead singer Dale Bozzio's persona. Everything from album covers to outfits.

Gaga is a poser.

If music was about fashion, maybe you're right. Or maybe Gaga's parodying or honoring that album? I really don't care, and I'm not sure why you do, but Lady Gaga is 1000x more influential and bigger and rightfully so. She's a phenomenal song-writer, whether you have a grudge against KatieMCR or not.

Also, Dale Bozzio is clearly the first and only person that displayed outlandish fashion.

That's only because Gaga is relevant right now. Let's see in 30 years if Gaga is any more relevant than her mentor.

I rememeber Missing Persons as well.

That said, I think gaga draws her inspiration from all sorts of places...

I see a lot of Bowie in Gaga's look, but I hear a lot of Britney-on-LSD in her music.

I honestly can't tell if you're serious.

I wouldn't cram Gaga up my butt if I had room for a Zoo.

Lady GaGa is nowhere near the type of music I listen to but I still think she's a very good songwriter. However, I've read the lyrics to her new single- Born This Way and while I have yet to hear the actual the song, those lyrics seem pretty clumsy and forced.

Just my 0.02 but sometimes an artist feels so strong about a cause or effort they are supporting that they force their music to fit inside a certain box. Sometimes the end result is genius and other times it seems to constrict what the artist is able to do.

Her new stuff will be interesting to hear.

Songwriting, not necessarily lyrical prowess. No one is or has said she's Shakespeare. But she writes amazing songs given the restrictiveness of the genre. I LOATHE pop, but I like Lady Gaga and I think that says something. Her ear for hooks is uncanny and the fact that she actually writes the songs is what truly sets her apart from the others of her genre.

All this shows is that there really is nothing new anymore in terms of fashion or pop culture. Gaga's schtick has happened already, Bieber's Brady hairdo, bell-bottom pants, long hair short hair bald dyed colored whatever have all been done before.

Numb - I'm not being a smart *** here - I'd really like to know how you would consider her influential. Are you speaking musically? I'm not sure how an artist with such a short and recent history could be considered so influential. But again, I'm curious about the context of her influence.

BTW, I remember Missing Persons quite well. I think it's more than reasonable to say that Lady Gaga is bigger.

anyone into that gaga stuff they sell at whole foods? personally, I think it's over-rated.

not to change the subject or anything...

I think UB is right about the Bowie influence. But I'd also say she's this decade's Cyndi Lauper.

Is it like living in parallel universes minus the coolness?
