Official Reaction to ‏"@Lockedonsports: Just saw @rudygobert15 hit 9 straight 15 footers" Thread

When he tweets about some nice low post moves and a deadly 6' hook shot then I'll get excited. I really fail to see what Rudy shooting a 15 footer does for us. If he is shooting that shot then guys like Hayward aren't. If I'm the other coach I give him that shot all night.

Right now if our wings get into that zone either the big greets them and they lob it to Rudy or the big stays with Rudy and they give up an open shot to a good shooter. Rudy puts so much pressure on the rim I don't see why we would want to negate that by having him float around 15 feet out unguarded.

As others have alluded, if he can hit that shot consistently, that brings the other center out from under the basket and opens things up for other guys. It also makes Rudy's passing skills that much more effective.

If we are this excited about an nba player making 9 15 ft J's he can't be that good. I can make 9 of those in a row. My mind will be blown when he does this in a game

Yeah I had the same reaction... Same as when a couple folks got excited about Rj hunter going 19/25 in 3 shooting drills... Open gym, no defender, in rhythm is not that hard.

I'm glad he's working on it doe.

Good lord it's practice!! It's like taking ft shots. Surely he's Made nine of those in a row on more then one occasion, right?
Well you might not think it's a big deal, but apparently it was a big enough deal for someone to tweet it.

It's cool that he's working on it but really. Practice shots from 15 ft? I find it hard to get excited about practice.

Zach Lowe said Kris Humphries went 70-85 from 3 after a practice this year. I'm not saying rudy can't shoot the 15 footer and I'm glad he's working on it just don't go overly crazy.

This thread should be a Jazzfanz Litmus Test. Any negative posters should be banned immediately. Old fashioned round up.

Why would they slack off? I'm not sure people are worried he's going to drive around to the hoop.

They slack off to help on favors or Hayward, Exum, Burks drives

You miss the point. It isn't about us setting him up as some huge 15' spot shooter. It is about being able to consistently hit the shot when he is left open, causing disarray among the opposing team's offense, which opens things up for others. Suddenly the Jazz twin towers can run a high-low game which is another level of depth to their game together, and we are that much more dangerous not just on defense.
Exactly.
I bet Memphis has benefited from gasols ability to hit the outside shot

Not that I don't care. Like I said earlier I'm glad he's working on it, but excuse me if I don't stop what I'm doing and go nuts over a player hitting 9 straight ft type practice shots. This is something I'm sure the likes of Shaq and Ostertag have done. Not to go all AI on us man, but it's practice man. We talkin bout practice man. If he does it even once in a game and my family will be cleaning up brain matter for days.

I'm ecstatic he's practicing but my point is practice is one thing game speed isn't practice. Again refer to AI. I do recall seeing Gobert hit 4-5 midrange shots in a row during shoot around in a game I went to last year. It's not a huge deal shooting an easy shot with no one defending u with no pressure what so ever.

Fish I like u but no need to get butt hurt over me not caring about something that happened in practice.

I'm not but hurt at all. Just playing

Having said that, this thread is for over excitement, uber positivity, and hyperbolic happiness to the 10th degree.

If you don't want to participate in the sunny skies of joy then that's ok... Kindly gtfo

This is the most incredible news I have ever heard!

As far as any news of Rudy is concerned, I'm choosing the path of unbridled optimism.

The finals just started and Rudy is already working on improving his game, practicing in the gym. That's the big win/take away I get from this. I'd rather see Rudy with some dominant low post moves, but having him as a threat from 15 ft is gonna help and keep teams honest.
But really...the dude is already working on his game. That's the win

His first SL I saw him make a move that blew my mind. You have seen several bigs make it: low post, back to basket, defender behind him. He faked to the middle of the lane, spun back the other way for an up and under reverse layup. Have not seen it since but its in there.

As are Cotton, Exum, Burks and Hood from what I have seen and read.

No word on the others that I know of.
