Jeff Withey Needs To Stay

Whoever makes the team out of Cotton/Johnson is going to get cut December 15th anyway. The Jazz will never let their 15th man be a guaranteed contract, that I can guarantee.

Maybe, but $980K is a pretty cheap insurance policy, especially when you're under the floor.
They can afford to keep Johnson, even guaranteed, and afford to trade up, eating the mil (just like with Jerrett)

No, the point is you lose flexibility if you have 15 guaranteed, so they won't do that.

With 15 spots on the roster, I think there's no way he's not on the team. He's probably one of our top 12, tbh. The guy knows how to play and can come in and perform in limited minutes. He's perfect for the role we have available.

And he's dating a playboy playmate... Or is that the reason we want him to stick around? ;)

If both of those guys are better than what is sitting in the D League then what do you need flexibility for? With Exum out I expect us to carry 15 this year. If we need to make a one for two trade then you cut the player then or include them because the salary is small. We rotated a lot of people through last year in hopes of finding guys like Cotton or Johnson.

What if a trade presents itself and we need to cut a player to make room for the trade, or the other team wants to cut salary and wants some non-guaranteed contracts back so they can cut and save money? You always need flexibility because you never know what will present itself. This is a strategy that DL has championed since he has been here, I dont see it changing. Chris Johnson and Bryce Cotton are good, but they are a dime a dozen.

Plus he's a competent midrang shooter and ft shooter

I dont think Withey has ever take a midrange shot in the NBA and he took like 14 total in his college career and barely made any.

He is supposedly a good practice shooter, but has never proven it in game.

Maybe I'm confusing him with someone. Could've swore that was part of his game.

Looked for myself, Gobert's OPP ATR % is 40.4 in 82 games played which is WAY higher than anyone else in the league.....Ibaka is at 40.8 but in 64 games
