Uh, the contract will dump itself at the end of the season.
With nothing to show for it either. I can't believe the Jazz didn't dump more players especially AK.

Exactly.Do you think we were going to get an all star or something? We were either going to get a bad contract back or actually have to trade a 1st round pick or something (for instance to Sacramento who is well below the cap) to get somebody to take his salary.
You just described Millsap's first two seasons with the Jazz, only being the size of a burly SF instead of a legitimate giant. And I think the Jazz did the right thing turning them down, but context is important when evaluating trades and right now, I have no interest in seeing what the non-rookie contract players bring to the table because I know it will be awkward and not enough.
More than anything, I don't know why the Jazz didn't flip Harris and trade Jefferson. If the Jazz are so concerned about losing '11-'12 and the related negotiating periods, they effectively took on $23.5 million in salaries for 2012 by letting the deadline pass today. That's $23.5 million committed to players that don't complement each other, look like some other team's players even wearing Jazz uniforms, and on a team with no direction whatsoever.
To me, that's stupid.
Do you think we were going to get an all star or something?
What's done is done, that's fine. I can get excited about rebuilding, I would just like the Jazz to do it the right way instead of hanging onto players that can't or shouldn't be in their longterm plans. Dumping Harris and Jefferson would get them even more cap space and even more picks for this project and that's what I'm interested in. And if the Jazz are going to operate under an assumption for one decision (we'll probably lose next year to negotiate/trade/whatever), I would hope they would operate under that same assumption for others.Stupid is kidding yourself into thinking your players will stay and being so naive that you let the trade deadline come and go without getting anything for them. We did the right thing. At the end of the day, we did the right thing and got more for DWill than we'd ever get. I truly believe that.
Salary is a whole 'nother issue too long to go into right now. What I will say though is that we have AK coming off the books (and Miles too if we want) this summer, Memo coming off the books next year (maybe he'll be an asset to someone next year or the next year the league plays), and then Bell, AJ, Millsap and Harris the year after that. Does that seem an eternity away? Sure. But it's only 28 months or so. By that time, Favors will still just be 21, we'll have drafted a couple of young gems (cross your fingers anyway) who likewise will be very young, hopefully gotten another draft pick or three by trading off some of the expirings year to year (and hopefully those too will have yielded good prospects), Hayward will have developed and will still be just 23, we'll have a ton of cap room to re-sign the aforementioned players or free agents, and so on and so on,
In other words, in just over two years time, we could have a ton, A TON, of legitimate young talent on this team along with a ton of cap room and be headed in the exact right direction that we need to be headed. That reminds me of what OKC has been doing and I like how that sounds. That requires Favors or other picks develop similarly to Durant and Westbrook to some degree of course. That also requires us to try to continue to trade marginal guys (Miles, Bell, Okur, Jefferson, maybe even Millsap) next year to stockpile picks, gain cap room, and pick up young talent. But I think Favors can be a cornerstone and think we can do all that and am excited about it.
No sense in continuing to fret about it bro. Look at the bright side (and there's a very bright one considering Deron was likely walking) and get excited.
Yes? What's wrong with this trade?

We ultimately agree, I just think Harris and Jefferson are a big waste of time and money, especially since neither are leaders, while one has been a loser his whole career and one has spent more time in the last two years sulking and pouting than Deron has.

https://games.espn.go.com/nba/trade...ot trade Griffin plus 5 other players for AK.
