It seems like it's been an especially excruciating year to be a Jazz fan. Looking back at all the games missed by Favors, Gobert, Burks, and Exum, not to mention the wilting away of Burke, it's quite remarkable that we're knocking on the playoff door at all, even though the West bar has been lowered. Utah already beat last years' record, excelling where others wilted. Yes, there have been too many soul crushing losses—including two recent down-to-the-wire games against the best two teams in the NBA. Our pain results, in part, from our raised expectations. The Jazz are a "cusp" team now. We've had some great games this season, some good Jazz memories.
Here are some of my favorites. Some of you have much better memories than I do, so I look forward to seeing what you add.
Jazz at Hawks
Nov. 15, 2015
W, 97-96
Utah had dropped 3 straight going in to Atlanta, and hadn't won there since 2010. It was an emotional game for Rudy Gobert, playing his first game since the horrific Paris terrorist attacks and after missing two games with a sprained ankle. He honored his country with his shoes and his double-double, 11 and 11. Hayward struggled to get 7 points, Burks was still around back then, bursting off the bench with 18. Paul Millsap scored 28, and he would've carried the Hawks to a victory with 30 had his jumper not glanced off the rim after he put Rudy on ice skates at the end. Favors willed the Jazz to victory, shooting 11-20 to lead the team with 23 points.
Kudos to ShortShorts's great game thread. Where did that guy go? By the looks of the thread, Hayward's 3-9 night didn't impress us.
Posts of the Game:
Diamond77— "WTF is doing Hayward?!"
Dalamon— "Remember when Plumlee was picked ahead of Derrick for the USA team? Lol. The dude WILL make the all-star team if the Jazz are a playoff team."
Jazz at Clippers
Nov. 25, 2015
W, 102-91
Hard to believe Hayward had lost 13 in a row to the Clips. The Jazz ran away with it in the fourth quarter when Hayward scored 14 of his 33 points. Utah overcame Griffin's 2-points-shy-of-a-career-high 40 point game. Neto was surprising us, dropping 10 points and six assists.
POG:
KD's Framily— "I said it before and I'll say it again. Gordon Hayward is a badass."
Warriors at Jazz
Nov. 30, 2015
L, 106-103
It took Steph Curry scoring 10 points in the final 6 minutes—including a big three pointer with the game tied at the 51 second mark in the fourth—for the Dubs to pull out their nineteenth straight win of the season. Hood missed that go-ahead three and we all felt for him. As punishment, Tibor Pleiss was assigned to the D-League like the proverbial scapegoat, carrying away Utah's sins. Two days later Rudy Gobert suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his knee.
POG:
Ellis269— "Favors and Hayward 9/9 on fre throw attempts. Hope that's going to be the norm moving forward." (Frightening foreshadowing?)
fallen chicken— "what was that shot man" (on the Hood 3 to end regulation.)
VINYLONE— "I am really, really proud of our team. Wow. What a fantastic effort and that's all I can ask for."
Pacers at Jazz
Dec. 5, 2015
W, 122-119
Utah fouled people shooting three-pointers about 23 times in this game. Effectively being outscored in the second, third, and fourth quarters, Utah held on to an 8 point first quarter lead to make it to overtime, then outscored the Pacers 9-12. It took a thrilling drive, dive, and dish from Alec Burks to Favors, who scored with the and-1, to send it another 5 minutes. Favors posted a career high 35 points, but Paul George scored a remarkable career high 48 points. In his third start of his career, Trey Lyles posted an unimpressive four points and 5 boards in 20 minutes of play, but his bench celebration game took off big time. The other Trey scored 19 and dished 7 assists. His stock was rising. (On Dec. 31 he'd post a season high 27 points in a W against Portland.) Neto's stock was rising, too, scoring a career high 13 including this nifty trick shot HOUDINI!!! (Three career highs in one game?) Former Jazz experiment C.J. Miles shot 2-10. Bowlerjack was 0-12 on funny jokes. Harpring ate 23 hot dogs.
POG:
Jamezz— "Kudos to Booker, had the flu and still showed great energy with a double double, and a block that would have stopped a freight train in that corner 3 attempt."
Bulls at Jazz
Feb. 1, 2016
W, 105-96
It was Utah's ninth game without injured Favors. After going 7-8 in January, Utah started February off right with an OT win against the Bulls on my birthday. I was at the game, as is my tradition. (Yeah, I was a youngster at the triple-OT win against the Bulls years back.) Gobert posted a double-double with 16 and 12. Derrick Rose hit a huge 3 with 18 seconds left then took a premature bow. Then Hayward took over. Tell me you remember this stunning pass from Joe Ingles and this MVP-worthy celebration by Trey Lyles. The Jazz coasted in OT.
POG:
KD's Framily— "Guys, that was a really awful play."
King Cy to KD— "Are you serious? That was a great play."
fishonjazz to Cy and KD— "Oh boy, here we go"
Jazz at Mavericks
Feb. 9, 2016
W, 121-119
Burke missed the game due to "trade-like symptoms." Utah hadn't won in Dallas since January 9, 2010, so with a six-game winning streak on the line we traveled there with trepidation. Mavs hopped out to an early 15 point lead but Utah grinded it down until Hood tied it up with a remarkable three pointer in the corner off a dish from Trey Lyles.

Not to be outdone, Hayward hit the game-winner at the horn, a step-back J with Mavs center Zaza Pachulia defending.

Cappy_Smurf— "Boler needs to shut his big yap when we're shooting free throws. Tell us afterwards damnit."
cowhide— "Can all the trade Hayward or trade Hood threads stop now. Both these guys are the Jazzman forever. Great road win. I wish I could have seen the game live because the Jazz haven't won in Dallas in a long time. I sure the winning shot made Cuban cry."
Rockets at Jazz
Feb. 23, 2016
W, 117-114
After a previous playoff-effecting match-up which included the infamous Withey foul that even NBA.com identified as a farce, and the Patrick Beverley foul shot shennanigans (you know, the guy who slide tackled Westbrook into a devastating injury), the Jazz wanted revenge. Post-trade deadline, Shelvin Mack started for the first time in Utah even though he'd only played one game for Utah, but Trey Burke came up huge by scoring three crucial 3's in the 4th quarter. Jason Terry sent it to overtime with a clutch 3, but Hot Rod Hoodley responded with a 3 of his own with 52 seconds to go in Overtime. Harden's 42 couldn't save the Rickets.
POG:
dalamon— "****ing garbage refs."
dalamon— "EVERYONE REPORT TO CLUTCHFANS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"
fishonjazz— "This season is taking years off my life"
Cavaliers at Jazz
March 14, 2016
W, 94-85
Things weren't looking promising as Utah faced the Cavs without Hayward and with Hood's lower back still bothering him. With the game tied at 66 going into the fourth, Utah went on a 16-2 run in the fourth going on to win by 9, ten of those run points coming from rookie Trey Lyles, who was erroneously ejected because of an accidental elbow to Frye's groin. Ingles hit a nifty pair of threes, Mack barely missed the triple double with 17 points, 10 assists, and 8 boards, and Hood poured in a smooth 28. LeBron posted a fruitless 23 and 12 for another L in Utah.
POG:
The Thriller— "Holy ****! That dunk by LBJ...Omg...Yeah this game is already over. Just one game"
DownUnder— "remember how painful it was waiting for Lyles to make his first field goal at the start of the season??"
Lakers at Jazz
March 28, 2016
W, 123-75
To celebrate Kobe's final game in Utah, the Jazz put together a nice tribute video for the retiring all-star that was even featured by USA Today. Then they drubbed the Lakers, handing Kobe the biggest loss margin of his career and tying the Lakers' worst loss ever, 123-75. Hood played out of his head in the first half, scoring 30, two shy of his career high, but he wouldn't score again. Alec Burks missed his 46th straight game, but rumors began to swirl that he wasn't actually dead or in fact may be resurrected soon. AK-47 was honored that night, too.

Jazz at Rockets
March 23, 2016
W, 89-87
Along with the win in Dallas, this was one of the biggest road victories of the season. Utah was on the ropes in the first half, putting up a mere 34 points (13 in the second quarter) and trailing by as many as 16 points. Yikes. But Utah methodically chipped away at that lead, holding Houston to 17 third quarter points. Things still looked out of reach when Houston led early in the fourth, 71–62. Mack and Hayward hit some 3s as the Jazz made a run, right up to the play where Favors seems to have stepped out of bounds before putting in the game-winning dunk. Mack ended the night with 16 including the 3 that tied it up.
POG:
Ostertag>Duncan— "I'm nervous bros hold me"
hawkeye— "anyone else notice they are playing the song 'Return of the Mack' at their arena? like.... seriously? They do know we have Mack who just saved us right?"
