What's new

Egyptian judoka refuses to shake hands with Israeli opponent.

Again, generalism from the other side this time. "an Arab"? Lol you sound like Arabians are genetically enemies of Hebrews and not possible to change their way of seeing things.

No. I don't sound like that at all. Simply stating a fact. Hell, in elemntary school, in Arabic grammar class, they would give examples like "The Jews, rapists of the Muslims lands, must be expelled at all costs". Then ask you if the sentence is grammatically correct. I heard that Jordan has, in the past decade, made significant strides away from that kind of indoctrination, but fact remain, hatred of Israel/Jews is very much part of mainstream Arab culture. My family, who's a very moderate and liberal family by Arab standards, casually say things like "I wouldn't even treat a Jew that way" or "you're being as bad as a Jew right now". They have similar saying for "unbelievers" too, but that's neither here nor there.

This doesn't have to apply to every single person in the Arab world for it to be relevant and troubling.

Definitely not. I just felt it was generalizing to the people when you say "Arabs" in general. I can relate to you in the examples you have given. Unfortunately, both formally and informally, Turkish education has its own alienation methods towards Jews, Armenians and Kurds mainly, but there always are exceptions with serious numbers that try to avoid it. It's called propaganda and it is not the fact even if it is mainstream and even if you are too moderate to be enslaved by it and are able to look to it and its slaves from above, people are more than stereotypes.

I am just explaining that such mentality is extremely common and very much mainstream in Arab culture. I don't really understand the point you're trying to make. It is NOT a sterotype. And it is not a universal truth. Surely we can talk about general phenomena without worrying about lovey dovey "but not everyone is like that!" disclaimers.

It's OK. You've already corrected the way you've mentioned it. So I don't have a problem with it at all. Just explaining why I replied.

that mentality is probably so common in Israel too, honestly. I know it is in Kosovo-- not towards Jews specifically (probably because there aren't really too many), but towards the Romani.

The ME has a massive annoying anti-semitism problem and you're right-- they're unreasonable with it. Israel is pretty annoying too tho.

I'd say Arabs are as bad with the propaganda as those ultra-orthodox settlers. Israel's mainstream society is far more tolerant in my view.

Of course, it is mutual. For instance, generations get raised with hatred towards Turks in Armenian or Kurdish societal groups.

It's easier to tolerate when you **** and others clean.

Except, most Arab countries aren't directly affected by the conflict. I see your point if we're talking specifically about the Palestinians. But whose **** are the Saudis, the Muslim world's primary poison dealers, cleaning?

Also, I don't really wanna get into the justification behind an ideology. There is a reason for everything, good or bad. I'm not disputing that. The fact remains, the level of anti-semitism in the Arab world is horrific.

I can't see how anyone could argue with that. Even though the hate towards Hebrews is related to the Palestine issue today, historically, it is international, worldwide.
