Hmmmm.... Interesting....

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The state Senate has approved legislation that would require California’s public schools to include gay history in social studies lessons.

Supporters say the move is needed to counter anti-gay stereotypes and beliefs that make gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender children vulnerable to bullying and suicide.

Opponents said it would burden an already crowded curriculum and expose students to a subject that some parents find objectionable.

The bill, sponsored by Democratic Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, passed Thursday on a 23-14 vote. The measure now goes to the Assembly.

It leaves it up to local school districts to decide what to include in the lessons and at what grade students would receive them.

I'll positive rep this when I get a chance

One, Hantlers? You're really *** kissing like anyone cares about your one? Yeah, in 8000 days you'll have spread enough that we will all feel your generosity. Haven't you heard that Quetzalcoatl is coming way before then? ******* pathetic you...
******* ****** ****
... Grow some dignity. Actually, scratch that. Ima do the work for you with some sympathy points so you don't have to cry looking up at some of these 4-by-default-of-post-count lover boys.

(Is this what you had in mind?)

i can't wait for this to be brought to the courts and waste more taxpayer money. Good thing California doesn't have any deficits or anything....

Wait, what? Gay history?

I mean, I'm all for gay people getting equal rights in regards to marriage or whatever, but they don't teach "straight history" in school. This seems pointless.

Listen this is a critical issue. If we do not understand the history of gay life in the world then we wouldn't be able to understand gay life and how it has changed and that is critical. I mean if we didn't then we wouldn't understand gay life and all that and, well that's important. At least 3% of Americans are gay so that 3% needs to be understood. Maybe we need a birthmark history curriculum too since about 10% of babies have the red "vascular" birthmarks and are often made fun of for it. Actually we should start a list and have a "X Curriculum" for anything that differentiates at least 3% of the population. Then we will all understand each other and be more understanding of each other.

Get on it Mark Leno!

Gotta love duplicate posts. I guess it was just twice as important as I thought.

I read circumcision history somehow. Maybe we should have a thread debating starting teaching that history too.

YEAH! I'm with you guys! Learning about a huge social issue of 21st century in SOCIAL STUDIES of all classes! Absurd! I mean, why don't we learn about straight history, hasn't 'whether straight people are normal' been a commonly discussed social issue??

In my opinion, we should just leave out the gay marriage social issue in social studies books, just have a blank page instead. They don't need to learn about ALL the issues that came about, after all. And besides, I don't like gay marriage anyway.

I know, I mean we sure learn about every single social issue that ever arose during the 21st century and before don't we? Yep, gay history is literally the only social issue not taught. That is why the social studies books were 25,000 pages long and weighed a quarter ton, all with one single blank page in homage to gay history, the only social issue left out.

I know, I agree with your logic. There are many small social issues out there not discussed in a social studies book, and therefore, arguably the largest social issue of this century is okay to be left out. There's only so much room!

Look, we already have enough to do. If it's the "largest social issue" let the newspapers do the job. Like Mark Twain said. . . . "Let sleeping dogs lie. . . . . But if much is at stake, better get the newspapers to do it." Key difference, the newspapers wil do it for free.

That's also a good reason to leave the largest social issue out of social studies books: it's in newspapers. Yeah, in fact, let's not put anything that's in newspapers in a social studies book, we can give them two page pamphlets of pointless material at the beginning of class. Scratch that, disband the entire social studies course, it's all in the newspapers.
