Donald Fires FBI Director who's investigating Russian Election Hacking

The Thriller

No one else has started a thread on this? Interesting.

So today Donnie fired the FBI director who was investigating Russian hacking into the election. Some people being investigated are parts of donnie's cabinet. Very reminiscent of the Saturday Night Massacre of 1973. How much longer does Donnie got until he's impeached or forced to resign?

Does he have the right to fire him? On what grounds? Can he appeal the decision, or sue for compensation?

Sue for compensation, LMAO. He's gonna land soft. Real soft. Don't worry about his money situation, he's gonna be okay.

He is an appointed official. The President has the prerogative to dismiss him.

It's a bad sign for Donald, though.

I don't think Trump makes it out of 2017 as President.

I almost think just not being President is too good for Trump. I'd really like to see him do prison time. If he does go to prison I'm gonna replay the debate where he, as a Presidential candidate, threatens Hillary, another Presidential candidate, with prison if he wins. That was one of the lowest moments in modern American politics.

Trump is disgusting.

how does Billy jizzing all over the oval office compare to the above ?

Well, let's see. One guy got a BJ while doing a really good job of running the country.

The other guy is abusing his position like never seen before in order to make himself and his friends as obscenely wealthy as possible before the pitchforks come out and run him out of the country where he will spend the rest of his life living on one of his many private islands, taking dumps in his toilets made of gold and molesting the young island girls in exchange for bright, shiny, beads.

It doesn't compare.

so as someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of american politics but just finds it entertaining .. what has he done that he could be jailed for ? And what did he think Hilary had done that he could throw her in jail for ?

It just all seems like a bloody good soap opera TV show

I didn't want to be accused of starting another Trump thread. But, seriously, this is huge news and it will be difficult to halt a tsunami of demands to appoint a special prosecutor. Trump spokesperson on Fox News last night insisted it was time to end the Russian investigation, so this is going to be tough to pass off as anything other then an effort at coverup. Some are already calling this a Constitutional crisis. I think it will be if that special prosecutor is not appointed....

"This is bad,” said Julian Zelizer, a history professor at Princeton. “There’s no way to see it other than: this is a high point of tension and it is in some ways an act of presidential imperialism against the point man in this investigation.”

“I don’t revere James Comey as an arbiter of neutral justice,” said David Greenberg, a professor of history at Rutgers, “But the thought of having the president’s own appointee overseeing that is just tremendously worrisome. I don’t see how you can’t conclude that a coverup is likely to be in the works. I don’t suppose how anyone could come to any other conclusion.”

America's new post-Comey reality:

Lets go over some facts:

#1 Only one other time has the FBI director been fired. That was under Clinton, when the FBI director came under fire for his lack of ethics, leaving Clinton with no other choice. The move was not political and in fact, his successor actually hurt Clinton politically (he helped Starr investigate Clinton/Lewinsky). Typically speaking, FBI directors serve as long as they want. J Edgar Hoover served from FDR until his death under Nixon. The goal here is to make the FBI position NON-PARTISAN. Trump's firing of Comey is exactly the opposite of that.

#2 Trump's rationale for the firing is a complete and utter lie. He claims that he's upset over Comey's investigation over Hillary Clinton's emails. Really? Does he really expect us to buy that? Does he really expect us to believe that Trump is so outraged in Comey's smear of Clinton that he fired Comey while he was giving a speech to FBI agents in Los Angeles? Does he really expect us to believe that he now suddenly cares about Hillary Clinton and the integrity of the 2016 election? Really???

#3 This comes exactly 1 day after former AG Sandra Yates testified that Michael Flynn, a former member of Trump's cabinet, was tainted by improper Russian relationships. She testified that they warned Trump of this but they ignored it (probably because they already knew and didn't care since Trump was in collusion already with Russia). The FBI director has made the Russia investigation his top priority. So the firing of him just as this Russian/Trump collusion is heating up is just too coincidental.

#4 This has happened before, in Oct 1973. A special prosecutor was investigating the Nixon admin over Watergate. There were break-ins, wiretaps, bribes, and a President talking with his cabinet about using the CIA to squash the investigation of the FBI... In order to stop this investigation, Nixon fired the special prosecutor, resulting in top members of the Justice Department including his own Attorney General, to resign in protest.

This eroded Nixon's support with the public and with congress. In today's hyper-partisan climate, it remains uncertain how devastating this will be politically for Donald. He seems to be right, he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose any votes. But we shall see. Investigations will continue and FBI agents were given yesterday an even greater incentive to leak what they find to the press. Where there's smoke there's fire.

Donald is trying to cover up something and will fire anyone who attempts to shed some light on it. His firing of Comey, who is in the middle of an investigation on trump, screams partisan. It screams obstruction of justice. Donald is rumored to be considering Giuliani and Christie as Comey's replacement. Does that really restore confidence that the FBI director will investigate crimes, without any consideration for its political implications?

Great article:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/09/...s-lying-again-now-about-james-comey.html?_r=0

“The firing of James Comey as F.B.I. director is a stunning event,” Benjamin Wittes and Susan Hennessey, two of the sharpest observers of the Russia case, wrote for Lawfare. “It is a profoundly dangerous thing — a move that puts the Trump-Russia investigation in immediate jeopardy and removes from the investigative hierarchy the one senior official whom President Trump did not appoint and one who is known to stand up to power.”

The president is lying about firing a top law enforcement official, and he is almost certainly lying to protect himself and his aides from a full investigation into their own activities.

Brian Schatz, a Democratic senator from Hawaii, wrote on Tuesday night, “We are in a full-fledged constitutional crisis.”

Democrats Wanted Comey Fired — Until Tuesday

Liberals demanded FBI director's resignation, dismissal for months — before turning it against Trump

Few Democrats suffered such severe political whiplash over the firing of FBI Director James Comey as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

Over the course of just a few months, Schumer has shifted wildly on the FBI director. The Democratic leader heaped praise on Comey for decisions that benefitted Democrats and tried to damn Comey for decisions that hurt Democrats. On Tuesday, Schumer suggested the decision to fire Comey was indicative of a “cover-up.”

Schumer held a press conference on Tuesday after President Donald Trump fired Comey, blasting the decision and telling reporters he earlier told Trump that he was making a mistake in firing Comey.

But a reporter immediately brought up a different opinion Schumer had of Comey last November.

“Sen. Schumer, you told me last year before the election that you lost confidence in Jim Comey because of how he handled the email scandal,” one reporter said. “Do you think that the president’s explanation … has credibility?”

Schumer became a bit defensive.

"I never called on the president to fire Director Comey," said Schumer.

Schumer then said Trump should have fired Comey earlier in his young presidency if he had some of the same concerns as Democrats.

It was a clever ploy. But it cannot hide the fact that Democrats have hated Comey for months. Many blame Comey for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's losing the election. Comey famously released a letter to Congress just before the Nov. 8 election indicating that he was reopening an investigation into how Clinton handled classified emails.

Comey, being Comey, closed the new investigation in record time, ending the investigation two days before Election Day and enraging Republicans by publicly declaring he still would not recommend charges against Clinton.

Schumer indicated Comey's handling of the matter was a deal-breaker.

"I do not have confidence in him any longer," Schumer said of Comey on Nov. 2.

Schumer called Comey's letter to Congress "appalling."

Schumer is far from the only Democrat who has questioned Comey's judgement or called for his firing.

"Maybe he's not in the right job," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told CNN on Nov. 2.

Clinton adviser James Carville went so far as to bizarrely suggest Comey, House Republicans, and the KGB (disbanded during the collapse of the Soviet Union) were in cahoots to elect Trump, during a Oct. 31 interview on MSNBC.

A handful of Democratic lawmakers have outright called for the FBI director to resign or be fired.

"This is not fake news. Intelligence officials are hiding connections to the Russian government. There is no question," then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said in a Dec. 10 interview on MSNBC. "Comey knew and deliberately kept this info a secret," he said.

The MSNBC host asked Reid if Comey should resign. "Of course, yes," Reid replied.

Comey's decision to publicly reopen the Clinton investigation drove Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) to also demand the FBI director resign.

"I called on FBI Director James Comey to resign his position after his recent communication with members of Congress regarding the bureau's review of emails potentially related to Hillary Clinton's personal email server," Cohen wrote in a Nov. 3 op-ed published in The Hill.

So great was Democratic animus towards Comey that several lawmakers walked out on the FBI director during a closed-door briefing on Russian hacking in the 2016 election, open to all members of the House, according to CBS News.

Two of those Democratic lawmakers blasted Comey to reporters outside the meeting.

"The FBI director has no credibility," said Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), according to CBS.

"My confidence in the FBI director's ability to lead this agency has been shaken," said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.).

Hillary herself still blames Comey for losing the election, despite the fact she didn't campaign in Wisconsin and Michigan, had poor polling numbers as far back as the summer, and couldn't inspire younger and Hispanic voters to come out for her in strong numbers — among other faults.

"If the election had been on October 27, I would be your president," she told a women's conference moderated by CNN's Christiane Amanpour on May 2. "It wasn't a perfect campaign, but I was on the way to winning until a combination of Comey's letter and Russian WikiLeaks. The reason why I believe we lost were the intervening events in the last 10 days."

When Trump took action to remove him from his position Tuesday, many of the same Democrats, including Schumer, who had blasted Comey or demanded he resign made a swift about-face to criticize Trump.

now i wish trump would sign a comprehnsive climate science bill!
so liberals would see climate hoax, and we could all finally have the same opinion on climate change!

come eat some crow thriller

Dutch, you're dumb as ****.

Do you not realize that it doesn't make any difference that Democrats wanted him to resign due to his actions during the election?

Trump did not fire him for his actions during the election. Trump was fine with that. Trump just fired a guy who is investigating serious allegations against him and many members of his administration.

Let me say it again...

Trump just fired a guy who is investigating him and many members of his administration.

Whatever R vs D diversions you find compelling... they are not. This can (should) be discussed with no mention of party affiliation.

Dutch, demonstrating his utterly simplistic understanding of the world.

Good job, Dutch. You epitomize the generation of people who's opinions are formed entirely through memes.

Yep, Dutch is a Trump supporter.
