Potential Promise to DJ Wilson?

I think? I know 2nd round picks can get paid more in their first contract than late first round picks.

They can per year because they can negotiate the number while the firsts are fixed, but I'm not sure they can go over 3 years. I don't know.

Doesn't it seem more likely that the Jazz probably told him that they consider him to be a first round prospect and somehow that got twisted into this news? I agree that our team doesn't seem like the type that would make a promise like this.

Wasn't there a promise to CJ Miles to draft him in the first round, but Jazz ended up drafting him in the 2nd round instead?

That's what I was thinking when I said, "The Jazz have only done a verified promise once that I can recall... but I can't remember the details", but I couldn't verify it to check my memory. But if you think it also, it's probably correct. :-) And then I think they gave him a first-round equivalent contract to make it up.

FWIW, I think all this DJ wilson talk is just talk

Hmm interesting. IF true I would be okay with that selection. His lack of minutes and production in his first two seasons is a little concerning but it's not something I would avoid drafting a player over. Some players develop later than others. The rebounding doesn't worry me much. Beilein's teams almost always struggle on the boards and bigs in his system rarely average more than 5 or 6 per game. I think it's a system thing. Wilson is 6'10, 7'3 wingspan, good athlete, defensive versatility that fits the Jazz style of play, good looking 3 point jumper... At pick 24 I'd be okay. At pick 30 I'd be much happier.
