Potential Promise to DJ Wilson?

Waste of a pick.

A soft and inconsistent player with nice offensive skills but zero motivation to play defense? We already have Trey Lyles. We don't need another one.

He's was a much better defender in college than Lyles has ever been in college or the NBA.

Jazz VP of personnel Walt Perrin was asked about the reported first-round guarantee for D.J. Wilson.

"Did not happen. Did not happen."

Perrin was asked how many times the Jazz have guaranteed to draft a player in his 16 years.

"Never."

Yeah, he gave himself away with the second answer. Do we really believe that the Jazz have never promised someone?

Watching the video. One thing that "bothers me" is his lateral quickness. He seems a bit slow laterally. Am I crazy?

There's a fine line between the Jazz guaranteeing to take a player with a certain pick and saying that they'll take a player at 30 if they're still drafting at 30 and if the player is on the board. The latter has a caveat/contingency.

The Jazz have promised guys before, including CJ Miles.

Walt Perrin had so many contradictions in his statement when interviewed about this.

https://www.deseretnews.com/article...-Michigan-forward-DJ-Wilson-in-NBA-draft.html

"As far as I can remember, we've NEVER said, we will definitely take you, you have a guarantee that we will take you if you happen to be there."
"NEVER happened" in his 16 years according to Perrin.

And then later in the article...

"We're a team that honors our word, so if we tell a guy that we will take him and we guarantee him - WHICH WE DON'T DO VERY OFTEN....."

Hmmmm what happened to "never"?
