I started this idea in another thread but thought it might be worthy of it's own thread...
Last year, the Cavs spent $54million because they were so far over the luxury tax. This year, they are around $14million over the tax limit. Repeater tax rate is even higher than the rate they paid last year. If we traded for Kevin Love prior to July 1 (so around the draft), we could save the Cavs a ton of money.
Remember the salary cap is $94million and we have around $14 in cap space:
Kevin Love $21 and maybe a less than million throw in player like Felder
for
Diaw ($7), Hood ($1.4), and a combination of picks (#24 in 2017, #30 in 2017, our pick in 2018, the OKC pick in 2018, 2nd rounders and maybe a bit more).

The Cavs would stay under the luxury limit which is massive as they will more than likely exceed it next year. We add a very powerful offensive player to our arsenal to try to keep Hayward. Love isn't perfect, but he fits very nicely next to Gobert. Very, very nicely.
From there, the Cavs will still try to keep rebuilding. Since they would have multiple first rounders from us, they might be able to do the following if they so wanted:
Shumpert, Diaw (non guaranteed for 2018 season), Jefferson, and draft picks for Melo
I know, Melo might not be the best fit for that team, but there has been plenty of speculation about Melo going to Cleveland. The Cavs could just trade Love for Melo after July 1, but there is no guarantee that the Knicks want Love when they want to build around Porzingis. By doing this deal, the Knicks would clear off a ton of cap space since Diaw's contract isn't guaranteed, Jefferson will likely retire and Shumpert only has one year left on his deal (another is a player option but it's doubtful he comes back for that). And they get numerous draft picks from Cleveland. Built around Porzingis instead of Melo, I personally think more free agents would think about going to NY.
So overall - We get Love for pretty much expendable pieces and our space, Cavs get Melo AND avoid luxury repeater and Knicks get draft picks and space for Melo.
