Draft night 2017 might be the single biggest turning point in Utah Jazz history.

Listening to sports radio yesterday as they discussed the fact that a current Western Conference GM has gone on record as saying the belief league wide is that Hayward is as good as gone. That was followed up by Spence Checketts saying he spent the weekend texting an individual that's somewhat in the know with the Hayward camp and that they also believe that Hayward has already made the decision not to return to Utah.

Yes, we can brush these off as mere rumors at this point, but if the belief amongst NBA GM's is that Hayward is a goner, you'd have to believe Dennis Lindsay is aware of this as well. More than ever, this convinces me that for better or for worse, the Jazz are swinging for the fences on a major trade come draft night. Since last offseason Dennis has in round about ways said multiple times that the Jazz are passing the point of asset acquisition and are at the crossroads of cashing in those assets in an attempt make a run at serious title contention.

If Hayward is indeed leaning towards leaving, the one wildcard that the Jazz still have to play is that maybe with some big enough draft night acquisitions, they can provide a roster for Gordon that's too good to pass up. The flip side to that coin is that maybe the Jazz believe Hayward's already moved on, so they try and use those assets to swing a big deal in order to keep this roster strong enough to continue its upward trajectory. Whatever side of the fence the Jazz sit on, I think we will see earth shaking, franchise altering moves on draft night.

Jazz trade: Derrick Favors, Rodney Hood, Dante Exum, 24, 30, 2018 OKC first round pick

Bulls trade: Jimmy Butler

Chicago would have picks 16, 24, 30 in the first round of the draft this year. They also get an extra first next year. Hood and Exum are going to be RFA so they would be guaranteed to keep them if they want. Favors is a risk-and-reward option for them and at worst is an expiring contract.

Utah gets another All-NBA player to pair with Gobert and Hayward.

I agree that the Jazz need to go big on draft night. They have expiring contracts, young players, 5 1st in 3 years and multiple 2nd rounders. DL needs to hit some homers.

Also, Hayward stays IMO.

I just don't understand what is out there that is so much better than what Utah has going for Hayward. If he leaves it's because he doesn't want to be in Utah. There is no move that is better than lateral as far as his roll, winning, potential... On top of that we can give him a little bit more money. Seems like an easy decision.

Question: can Hayward actively talk to front offices right now or does he have to wait for free agency to start? I get that there are ways to communicate without doing it directly, just wondering if he can actually pick up the phone and talk to the Celtics GM, or if his agent can, to find out what their plans are if they do sign Hayward?

Hayward is going to Boston. Rudy demands a trade. Quin takes a job at Duke. Dennis O Lindsey becomes the AD at Baylor. Jazz relocate to Seattle. Vivint becomes a homeless shelter.

I don't see it as better either, but there just hasn't been a lot of positivity coming from national sources. At best national guys think it's 50/50, with some saying its over he's headed to Boston. I don't believe that "sauces" are always right, but there has been enough out there to believe that this is real and out there. I don't think its a done deal, but if Boston trades Bradley, Smart, or Crowder come draft night then I think it's a good indication they are clearing the space to sign him and have a good idea he's coming.

They can't talk to him specifically about FA... I think Lindsey can talk to his agent to schedule meetings post July 1... might be able to run trades by him... not 100% sure, but they can't talk contracts (not that they don't) before July 1

I don't see a Jimmy Butler trade being possible or being a big positive to Hayward. If so Boston will outbid us.

This sauce is always right...

If it's true Hayward want to leave, could it be the coach?

there was one game then Quin was in his ear not yelling but explaining something.. and I could see a look on Hayward's face that gave me the notion for a second Hayward didn't like him... He didn't look him in the eyes, gave a vibe that he was putting up with him. Hopefully I'm wrong but you reminded of that. I personally like Quin and our front office. I never liked Corbin.
