What's new

Draft night 2017 might be the single biggest turning point in Utah Jazz history.

I don't see it as better either, but there just hasn't been a lot of positivity coming from national sources. At best national guys think it's 50/50, with some saying its over he's headed to Boston. I don't believe that "sauces" are always right, but there has been enough out there to believe that this is real and out there. I don't think its a done deal, but if Boston trades Bradley, Smart, or Crowder come draft night then I think it's a good indication they are clearing the space to sign him and have a good idea he's coming.

They can't talk to him specifically about FA... I think Lindsey can talk to his agent to schedule meetings post July 1... might be able to run trades by him... not 100% sure, but they can't talk contracts (not that they don't) before July 1

Yeah, I hate to agree with this, but there's too much smoke right now not to consider there may be fire. Honestly, his body language at the end of the season made me think he already had his mind made up to leave.

Let's calm down. It's just as valid an interpretation to say that Hayward didn't "peace out," he put up his hand in gratitude for the fans cheering. I don't buy the Lindsay's dialogue argument at all. He sounds the same as he always does. Locke is speaking from his own gut, not from some secret source information, and he's merely listed reasons Hayward would stay versus reasons he would leave. You're looking at the clouds and seeing the shape of a giant monster where others see a big heart shape.

Thank you. Talking sense.

I paid really close attention to what Hayward said and how he acted in interviews at the end of the season, and it definitely wasn't encouraging.

It wasn't just the peace out thing. There were other little things like when they asked him about the fans chanting his name, he was really careful about what he said, and after a pause, said something about how it was great and something he'd take with him.

Even the comments Hill made about Hayward's heart being in Utah, to me sounded like a guy trying to sugarcoat what he really couldn't say.

It's always possible that Gordon hasn't even decided yet, but I have yet to see or hear anything from him that makes me believe he wants to be back. Absolutely no talk about the team and their future, like most players do at the end of the season when they are planning on playing for the same team.

I hope I'm wrong, but right now there is a ton of smoke all around IMO.

there was one game then Quin was in his ear not yelling but explaining something.. and I could see a look on Hayward's face that gave me the notion for a second Hayward didn't like him... He didn't look him in the eyes, gave a vibe that he was putting up with him. Hopefully I'm wrong but you reminded of that. I personally like Quin and our front office. I never liked Corbin.

lol i'm so glad that we have you to be able to interpret a single look from Gordon Hayward that tells about his relationship with Quin

ffs people get a freaking grip.

I think it's 50/50 still I'm going to flip a coin and pick that side until July 1. I don't read a ton into what he says because he's always kind of guarded and awkward. Choosing words carefully not to encite any issues. Joe Ingles comments are kind of the key to me and he says they talked about running it back. I think Ingles is his boy Ingles is the most real genuine interview.

All the sources stuff is a little troubling for sure. Others brought up good points that they may be trying to damage a competitor... flipping the coin now.

I understand what you mean, but i think he's just super super private and careful and vanilla in everything he says. I think he just wants to go through the process and feel like he has total control in his choice. I believe he does want to look at all the options and make sure he chooses what he 100% feels is the best option.

Bottom line is nobody knows truly. Everything is pure 100% speculation, and i still can't see that there's a better situation that is going to be worthwhile uprooting from his current scenario.

I'm checking out for the next couple of weeks not from anxiety but the micro analysis is just insane. Still think he'll be back and we'll pay George.

I flipped the coin... it was Heads... Hayward stays... You're welcome.

Yes I think we could get him without gutting the team. The main thing Boston has to outbid us with is the #1 pick and they are not trading that for George.

Yes I think it's worth the risk of him leaving to trade for him.

I would be hesitant due to the approaching opt-out but would certainly be interested depending on the cost. I imagine we'd have to center the deal around Hood/Exum/24/future 1st(s)/+(?).

BOS has much more than just #1 to offer IND. They have multiple future 1st's in addition to BKN 2017. I'd guess that Brown would be off-limits for Butler, but AB/Smart/Rozier/Crowder all have value. They also own the rights to 2 promising draft & stash prospects (especially Zizic). I would also expect several other hopeful contenders to be interested in acquiring him, even if only for next year.

What would you consider a realistic trade that wouldn't gut our collection of assets? Also, do you think we would have a legitimate shot at convincing PG to re-sign &/or winning a championship in his single season here? Or are you going into the trade with the assumption that he's strictly a rental & hoping to catch lightning next year?...Which possibly persuades him to stay?...Seems like a risky bet to me (depending on what it takes to get him).

You both make valid points for sure, and believe me that I've been trying to convince myself that Hayward was just being careful not to commit, so he could leave his options open.

However, right now between the reports and his sketchy behavior and Locke seemingly working on softening the blow, there is very little to have confidence in. I don't think Boston is in a better spot than Utah, but they aren't in a much worse position, either.

What really sucks is that a healthy Hill and Favors last year IMO, would have made his return automatic.

Either way, I'm ready for this **** to be over.
