Hayward signing outright (reported rumor)

How? You expect Hayward to refuse to sign with the Celtics just because Ainge won't help the Jazz? What's he going to do then? Go sign with Indiana? It doesnt bear repeating because it's a ridiculous assertion.
a) He or his agent could easily have said to Ainge on July 4, "I'd like to sign with you but a requirement is you work out a way for Utah to get a trade exception." Would have cost him nothing, and Ainge would have obviously agreed.

b) Even now, he could probably go to Ainge and say, "Make this happen before I sign with you. I owe it to the team and fans in Utah," and I doubt Ainge would resist too hard. Especially if Utah is willing to throw in a 2nd rounder which they undoubtedly are.

Professional courtesy. Son's campaign. Saving face in a state he's connected to.

On the flip side there's only one reason not to do it -- because he's a dick.

DL twice facilitated the Warriors championships.

We could send back a second round pick even... fairly ridiculous as they aren't all that close to the hard cap... no other reason to not do it.

You really don't want to do this. I've been at summer league all week and watched the gms and management people all talk... it's a community and burning bridges at every opportunity eventually comes back to hurt you.

I hope they file a tampering charge if only to get the NBA to tighten stuff up. The teams that have players recruiting and having early contact have a huge advantage.

I would not be surprised if Gordon and his wife have more bad feelings about Utah right now then they ever have. I am guessing that both he and Ainge have nothing but disdain for the Jazz and the their fans at this point. Just imagine how much worse it would be if they read this fan site.

After reading the reaction from fans here, why would Hayward do any favors for Utah?

After how Checketts has acted?

The ridiculously huge deal over not calling Gail?

Tell me again, why does Gordon owe Utah anything? He fulfilled his contract. He's obligations ended on July 1st.

I don't think Ainge is worried about long term. I'd bet that he wants to win another title and go away.

Ainge hopes Hayward, Brown, Tatum and next year's pick do the job.

Any future favors from Utah...he just took Hayward. A TPE or second round pick won't make up for that.

Just move on lol. The guys gone. He's not coming back. He doesn't owe anyone anything. The only chance we had was getting Crowder BEFORE they traded Avery. That's gone. Time to move on.

I think you are wrong. Dealing Bradley signifies that they are indeed worried more about the future than the immediate present.

Dude, cmon.

Hayward wanted to go to Boston. That's who he wants to play for. He isn't going to let Ainge giving or not giving a TPE to Utah stand in the way of that. He told Ainge he would be willing to be in a S&T and Ainge said no thanks, I'm not giving Utah any handouts.

You can't honestly expect Hayward to base his FA decision on which team is willing to give Utah a TPE. Grow up.

You're playing the "what if giving the TPE screws him" hypothetical, as if there aren't alternative hypotheticals that can bite him in the *** if he doesn't do it.

The hypothetical of some other team stealing a player from them and not agreeing to a TPE is far less crushing than giving a TPE to a team then having that team scoop up a player you were also targeting in a trade.

You can disagree with Ainge's philosophy, but don't cry about it. Ainge isn't playing for favors.

Let me break this down for you.

The TPE would help us, not Boston. Correct? So it's valuable, but only to us.

Let's say you and I are in a competitive business together. I have something that's worthless to me. It could be somewhat valuable to you though. Am I just going to give it to you? Hell no! I'm competing with you. If I get no benefit from this, then it ain't happening.

Do you understand?

Let me break this down for you.

The Jazz receive a TPE and a player Boston will cut anyway given their new roster (if a player even has to come back)

The Celtics receive a future second round pick and Haywood

The Celtics give up a TPE that is useless to them and a player they are releasing anyway (again, if a player even has to come back in return). Which means they give up NOTHING. In return they receive Haywood and a FREE second round pick.

They win. There's no reason for them not to do that other than to be d****

Do you understand?

No...No I do not.

Would you punish the fans like he did and expect less? I was cool with him staying or leaving(figured he was leaving when his meeting with us was in SD) bit that 6 hour "will he, won't he" killed what respect I had for him as a man. I'm not understanding how you let this big of a decision (one you prepped for) got flubbed so bad. Tony Jones had a nice piece on the POV from the Jazz. Will be nice throughout the season to hear more coming out about what's going on the last 2-3 days
