I think this format guarantees Gobert is an all-star. Haywood may never become an all-star again...LOL.
The Western Conference is like the Power-5 conferences in College Football...the East is equivalent to the Sun Belt Conference.

They still chose all-stars the same way as before, with 12 from each conference. This just changes how the teams are split up.

This is basically equivalent to fixing grinding brakes on a car by turning up the radio.

OK got it now. Just mixing up the East's decent players with the West ultra elite players to make two teams. Yeah, this format still blows...
 
LOL What a joke -- defensive players (i.e., big men) will be the last players chosen for a team.

Do the coaches still get to set rotations or will that be a popularity contest as well? Maybe we can break the 48-minute game into sixteen, 3-minute intervals and then live stream fan voting for who should be on the floor during each interval? Maybe we can even insta-poll for who gets to shoot on each possession?
 
I do think that this half measure makes it easier to just take the 24 best players in subsequent years. I think the first 10 should be selected by conference, then the coaches select the final 14.

I mean if they are going to base the salary structure by all star appearances, eventually having an entire conference of crap all stars is going to keep making the unbalance more pronounced when you are paying Otto Porter the megamax, and the Western Conference gets to keep their stars on the cheap.

I also think that there is no way in Hell the Cousins and AD BOTH get into the all star game. GObert is a lock.
 
I can see why they still want to keep the 12 from East and 12 from West thing. There is currently an exodus of player from East to West. Had they gone with 'pick any players', that's gonna make it even more attractive for players wanting to move West.


By giving equal chance to the East it's saying to the players "If you want to be a perennial all star why don't you move East"? (i.e., the Hayward to BOS move)

Make the all star game count. Make the winner get home court advantage in the finals. It's not that hard to fix this useless game.
