SI Article: "Kanter passes first few tests but team workouts will be key"

Very nice post. The only thing I disagree with is that we should trade AL now. I'm all for picking Kanter, he has great potential, range on his shot, and is clearly not afraid of some hard work. That said, there just isn't much film on the guy and he comes with a lot of risk. Keeping Al around for at least another year to see what we really have (would have) in Kanter is a smart move, and it would allow for Kanter to come off the bench while he gets fully acclimated to the NBA. Also, If Al works out with Sap this offseason like he says he will, he will come back in great shape and his trade value will be at an all time high, it's really a win/win for the Jazz.

I can agree with that. I just feel like there's this misconception that since we just traded for Jefferson that we can't trade him and wanted to dispel that theory. Thanks for your thoughts.

I think Favors would be the best center of the group as his standing reach and max vert reach are both better than Kanter's (I think) and his footspeed and defensive iq seems very strong, and are also likely better than Enes'.

I agree with this, but I would like to see Favors play PF on offense and C on defense. Just a little thing, but it is what I would prefer. But Favors has a very impressive wingspan/reach along with great athleticism. He would make a very good defensive center IMO.

There's enough Kanter threads going so thought I'd add to this one.

Just read a lengthy breakdown of Kanter by Fran Fraschilla. It's an ESPN Insider article so I'm not going to paste it here (unsure if mods still enforce that rule or not) but one interesting thing was Fraschilla said Kanter has "size and mobility to play power forward and, at times, center in the NBA." He says the best-case scenario for Kanter is Al Horford - who has a similar size and style - although Kanter will be starting his nba career 2 years earlier than Horford.

Fraschilla's final speculation is that Cleveland should consider Kanter #1 overall because he doesn't "see him being available when they select again at No.4." TIFWIW.

Because he grew over the last year and a half does not indicate at all that he is still growing. He may be. He may not be. Also, Favors measured out bigger in both standing reach and wingspan than Kanter. Kanter's athletic measurements are not available but I also think it's safe to say Favors vert would be better than Kanter's as well.

Playing C is as much a matter of strength and width as it is height and length. I like the pairing because I think either can pass as either position but have different enough bodies and styles that they could tailor matchups and not have too much of a problem.

Exactly, the width of Kanter's body easily is worth a couple inches on standing reach and wingspan.

Well, in that context, I was referring to... thickness or bulk. Size of frame, natural build. Natural ability to take up a lot of space. Favors doesn't really have that, at least not yet.
