Favors next season?

How often have the Jazz come out on fire to start games? Just the eye test, but Utah often struggles to score. Favs and Gobert just arent a good fit next to each other. And you'd think with those two, Jazz would dominate the boards...but they don't.

Favs is a pretty good 5 when Gobert sits. But Utah needs a 4 who can stretch the floor, especially with two starting guards who are sub 35% and no help off the bench.

Derrick is either gone or is having marriage problems with his family already moving back to GA. Udoh will get the backup mins behind Gobert next year, with Bradley spending one more season with the Stars. And DL will bring in a shooter. Crowder will get the chance to start, but ultimately Utah needs a guy who can hit the 3. Mirotic would have been so nice to have.

With Brad Stevens as coach, the odds of this happening are miniscule.

Not if their star players all have injury issues. The Jazz have seen multiple seasons derailed by injuries. That’s the problem it’s max contracts. If those guys can’t play or take a major step back, it kills your team AND your ability to fill those roles with new players. There’s going to be a LOT of medical issues that need to be resolved with that team before they’re contenders.

Hayward, Irving and Horford have all (now) had major injury issues at some point in their careers. They have to be committed to them. If they can’t stay healthy, or fail to produce. . . they’re not going anywhere.

I agree. Will Hayward ever be the same after that injury? Horford is starting to age so injuries will hang on longer and he will need more rest. Not sure how bad Irvings injury so we will see how he recovers. I dont want to see any player go down due to an injury but I cant help but grin a little inside thinking that Hayward had a little karma coming his way. I hope Boston never makes it out of the first round as long as Hayward is on the team.

Has anyone gone through and looked at likely destinations for him. He is a Georgia boy right? So I think I have heard talk about that.

Atlanta is the intuitive choice but they have Plumlee's horrid contract to deal with at Center and plenty of needs elsewhere. I definitely wouldn't call him a perfect fit on The Hawks.

One team that I can see going after Favors is Indiana. They have zero low post depth and some decent cap space coming into free agency.

I can see them having some success with a Turner/Favors 4/5 combo.

The Jazz will offer similar money to other teams imo, its more a question of, is Favors happy with his role? Does he want to be on a bad team but playing 35mins or on a rising contender playing 27mins?

His value as an insurance policy cant be understated but I also wonder what Bradley can add? Can he fill that role Favors leave vacant if he leaves? Its a pitty we haven't been able to see him at all this year but Im sure the FO have an idea of what he can bring and if he will be ready.

They have Thad Yound and Favs would play behind Turner at C... I dont see that as viable.

Favs is a C in todays NBA. Not many teams but Utah are built to give him minutes at PF.

He'll most likely be an unrestricted free agent.

Plus he's undersized for a 4 and a below average rebounder pushing 30 . Probably time to move on anyway

If he has all that going against him, what makes you think he'd turn down that $14M PO?

And again, I dont see teams bringing in Favors to play PF.

I think he opts in or opts out with a deal in place that is longer and more overall money... so trades his 1/14 for a 3/30.

Favs is tough... I could see phx or Dallas offering decent money... 4/50ish. His market could be really limited though.

I think the jazz offer a 1 year 12-15M deal if he can’t find anything... not sure we want him complicating our 2019 cap space.

I’m very curious to see how the Gobert, Favors, Crowder trio performs in the playoffs. The thing I really like about those three is that they can all play together.

All three combinations have been successful together since the trade. Add Sefalosha into the mix, and I’m really intrigued about keeping them together for next year.
