Following Potential 2018 Draftees

I think the matter here is a positional one, and I think that 2 inches and 10 pounds is enough to make one a believable 4 and the other not so much.

Every team could use a 3+D wing, but no team needs one less than the Jazz.
A 3&D 4, however.

Just reading around various message boards I see this comment about Doncic that I find hilarious.

it's basically along the lines of;

Teams who pass on doncic better have good playmaking, because a playmaker of this ilk isn't gonna be available again anytime soon....

and I kinda think thats silly, and dont get me wrong he's fantastic and the 2 names (going into Jr year HS) i'm about to say might be worse playmakers , but still are fantastic in their own right, and quite bluntly could end up better prospects overall;

6'4" PG R.J. Hampton and 6'8" point forward, Scottie Barnes, who's got a 7'2" wingspan and guards 4 positions.....

I think Mo Bamba is going to Dallas. He is blocking Memphis at #4 so he can go #5 to Dallas. The Mavs have wanted a big time center for a long time.

So who drops to 6 - Jackson, Doncic or Porter?

KBD has some of the best measurables for a stretch 4 BTW, better than Miles Bridges. Think he could step in and start on opening night.

I’ve been on the KBD draft train. Perrin called him a stretch-4 and he’s a great defender. Big 10 POY last year too.
1.5 BPG* as a SF, 7' 3" wingspan, weighs more than every other 3+D wing/combo forward**. I think he is best suited of all of those players to fill that role. Someone who really knows what they're talking about would have to convince me why size/position/fit isn't a variable to select by considering that there are a bunch of guys with a similar skillset and level of production (he is older, but he also produced more than the 3+D glut, and produced as much or more than the Bridges as well [one of whom is only a year younger]).

EDIT:
* and 2.1 per 40
** at 5% body fat

I worry that he won’t be durable and it likely is illogical... I’d want the medical double and triple checked. He just moves kind of awkwardly.

Locke had a pretty good podcast that really talked about the big question for our front office is do we believe that we can sign a big free agent next year? If so keep the powder dry... if not there are absolutely some moves we could make. I think the best idea is to keep the powder dry but it would be interesting to know what we are passing up.

Interesting note... PG may sign a 1+1 contract with OKC... so he’s indeed be a target in 2019 when we would be able to clear the space.

I think we have to err on the side of keeping that 2019 space open.

He definitely could come in and start day 1 I think as well. Amazing wingspan for his size.

I'm sorry, what does any of that have to do with KBD or this selection? The way I see it, the best way to keep the powder dry is to draft guys that have a chance at making the rotation now so that we don't have to re-sign Favors, Exum, or Rubio.

What are his measurable? Eye test he kinda looks like a poor man’s Antawn Jamison — someone putting up okayosh numbers but overall kinda meh. Could be very wrong.

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit desperate for this to happen. Is there any buzz around this? I feel like if he falls, a team won't want to trade out.

I like the idea of having plus-athletes at as many positions as possible. Miles is aggressive, twitchy and explosive enough to attack the rim on a spaced floor. His shooting should be good enough as well.

One of the guards, whether SGA, Young, Sexton or Walker, and one of the wings, whether Knox or Miles Bridges, should fall to 14 or 15, especially if someone like Robert Williams or Zhaire Smith gets into the lottery.

6' 8.5" in shoes
7' 3.25" wingspan
223 lbs (5% body fat)
8' 10.5" standing reach (tallest of any PF, wing, or smaller projected in the Jazz's range besides Spellman [only an inch shorter])

"Kinda meh" is actually a good pick at 21 if they make the rotation and fit. I know no one wants to hear that but it's the reality (my 1st priority is finding a game-changing scorer, which KBD isn't).
