Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Has anyone else heard chatter/rumors about Okogie's attitude? I heard somewhere that he has a blackhole mentality, has to be the go-to guy offensively, and that it has been a problem. I don't know if it's a true or not. That's why I ask. Overall he seems like a prospect who has a lot of tools.

I think this is our guy if he's there for us. He's the right combination of size, strength and skill level. I'd put him ahead of Okobo and Okogie on my short list due to position.

His shooting is my main concern on him. WE need shooters. Even Walt said that is his concern on Troy.

Same, hard to predict they might even trade down.

The consensus top 16 picks still appear to be: Ayton, Doncic, Bagley, Jackson Jr., Bamba, Porter, Carter, Young, Mikal, Sexton, Walker, SGA, Miles, Knox, Williams, Z. Smith...

So one or more of these 5 players will be available at 21: Brown, Huerter, J. Robinson, Okobo, Musa.

I'd expect the Jazz would take one of these guys, KBD or Okogie.

Troy Brown's free throw percentage is 74.3%. Free throw percentage is a better indicator of how one will shoot the three in the NBA (do we believe this or not?). I think he will be average or above average 3 point shooter. And he is 18, so I really believe his shooting will get better. And add to the fact that he is a Vegas native -- I don't think he would mind living close to home.

Here's a better set of highlights uploaded a couple days ago (his agent??).

Yeah, but he's got everything else and his shot isn't broken. This isn't MKG or something.

That would be my argument, in that he doesn’t have everything else.

His biggest attributes are:
-size
-age
-ability to facilitate

He’s an “eh” defender in an “eh” league, doesn’t shoot well in any situation.

I get why people like him but I feel people are trying to wish him into being this gem that no one sees but them. I just don’t think it’ll pan out.

If we pick him, I hope I’m wrong. I could also see him dropping, even past us, on draft night.

I think Brown's skill level is actually very high, and in many respects higher than Kevin Knox. He can handle, pass, rebound, attack off the dribble and score at 3 levels. He has really good feel, instincts and anticipation. He should be able to defend wings. He needs to work on his body and his shooting, and there's some risk, but he's a fairly complete prospect.

With Okogie, his skill level isn't quite as advanced yet and he plays a little out of control. For all his length and hops, he barely gets above the rim on his dunks and isn't quite the lock-down defender he should be. If his skill level really improves, he could be amazing. If it doesn't, he's mostly an energy player.

I like you, you’re my guy, but how can you type that he scores at 3 levels? He’s literally one of the worst shooters in the draft.

Can someone explain to me what the 3 levels are? I keep reading it in mock drafts.
Every year there are new buzz phrases that, if you don’t have, you “can’t play basketball in today’s NBA.” First it was “stretch four,” recently it’s “positionless basketball,” and more recently it’s “scoring at all three levels,” which I take to mean you can score from deep, from the mid range, and at the rim. Could be way off, because I couldn’t survive in “today’s game.”

Another worthwhile buzzword is "triple-threat," meaning a guy can shoot, pass or drive. The Jazz need a triple-threat player in their frontcourt.

We need Spellman because he’s a triple threat who can score at all three levels, is a modern stretch four, fits perfectly with positionless basketball, can play in today’s game, doesn’t play defense with the top of his head, and is the kangaroo’s sack.

kangaroo's sack... I like that one. Let's find a meaning for that and spread it amongst bball fans everywhere so it sticks. LOL

I'm sorry, what does any of that have to do with KBD or this selection? The way I see it, the best way to keep the powder dry is to draft guys that have a chance at making the rotation now so that we don't have to re-sign Favors, Exum, or Rubio.

It doesn’t... my brain just goes places... most of them unproductive rambling... didn’t want to start a new thread.

I like KBD in general... just a weird feeling that he may not stay healthy because his movements aren’t super fluid... like something might not be lined up right. If he’s there I’d take him over a lot of guys.

I think my ideal guys at 21 are:

Huerter
Brown
Okobo

My I’m happy with guys are

Donte
KBD
Evans

My no thanks

Allen
Robinson
Brunson
Anyone who is just a center
